The film is produced by the People's Army Cinema, aiming to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and National Day September 2. The teaser trailer and teaser poster were released on July 17, revealing the story of the fierce war of the past recreated on screen.

The film “Red Rain” was inspired by the 81 days and nights of heroic and resilient fighting by the people and officers and soldiers to protect Quang Tri Citadel in 1972. This is one of the most vivid expressions of the Vietnamese people’s aspiration for independence, freedom and national unification in the resistance war against the US to save the country.
It was the fierce 81-day and night battle to protect Quang Tri Citadel that contributed to the victory at the Paris Conference negotiation table, paving the way for the great victory in the Spring of 1975, liberating the South and unifying the country.

The film tells the story of Squad 1, consisting of young and enthusiastic men, one of the fighting units, holding out at the fierce Quang Tri Citadel battlefield. The film is a visual epic, a tribute and remembrance to those who have devoted their youth to the country. "Red Rain" also carries the sound of love, sacred camaraderie, expressing the desire for peace and national harmony of the Vietnamese people.
To realistically recreate the historical context of the war at Quang Tri Citadel, the film crew of “Red Rain” built a large-scale studio in Quang Tri town, next to the Thach Han River.
