The training course welcomed Dr. Nguyen Hong Cau, Deputy Director of the Ca Mau CDC, who attended and gave a directive speech. Lecturers from the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Department and the Laboratory - Diagnostic Imaging - Functional Examination Department (Ca Mau CDC) were also present, along with 50 trainees including healthcare workers at the regional and commune/ward levels involved in determining drug addiction status; and healthcare workers responsible for examining, diagnosing, managing, and counseling drug addiction treatment in the area.
Emphasizing the dangers of drugs – a major threat hindering the development of the country in general and the locality in particular – Dr. Cau affirmed that drug prevention and control is an urgent and ongoing task, requiring strong and coordinated efforts from the entire society. In particular, the health sector needs to focus on effectively carrying out the task of "harm reduction," contributing effectively to supporting other functional sectors in monitoring, detecting, and preventing the consequences caused by drugs.
Over three days (October 15-17), trainees were instructed on topics including: Definition and classification of drugs; How to identify drug addicts; Withdrawal syndrome and mental health; Diagnosis of drug addiction; Assessment of entry and tolerance; Rapid drug detection test methods in urine; Registration process for methadone-based heroin addiction treatment and treatment transition process; Operating conditions for methadone-based heroin addiction treatment facilities; Procedures for dispensing methadone replacement therapy for heroin addiction over multiple days; Drugs and their various forms... In addition to providing knowledge and procedures, trainees were also updated on relevant legal documents related to HIV/AIDS prevention and control, ensuring standardized and compliant operations.
The training course provides an opportunity for healthcare professionals to exchange expertise and share practical experiences in HIV/AIDS prevention and control. By enhancing the understanding and capacity of the specialized team, the activity makes a practical contribution to the protection and care of people's health.
