Sputnik, citing a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense on May 31, reported that the Russian air force used high-precision weapons to destroy the Yuri Olefirenko, the last Ukrainian naval warship in the port of Odessa.
"The last warship of the Ukrainian navy, the Yuriy Olefirenko, was destroyed while anchored in the port of Odessa," said Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The Yuri Olefirenko is a medium-sized landing ship of Project 773, and also the last large warship of the Ukrainian navy. Built in the late 1970s, the Yuri Olefirenko was delivered to Ukraine after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

While serving in the Ukrainian navy, Yuri Olefirenko underwent several overhauls and upgrades, most recently in 2016.
According to Reuters, Oleh Chalyk, spokesman for the Ukrainian navy, declined to comment on Russia's claim that the Yuri Olefirenko ship had been destroyed.
Earlier, on May 29, Ukrainian officials confirmed that Russia destroyed at least five Ukrainian Air Force fighter jets in an airstrike in the western part of the country. The port of Odessa was also attacked.
In the course of the conflict, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the most intense fighting is taking place in the Avdeevka area of the Donetsk region. " In the Donetsk direction, the fiercest battles are taking place in the Avdeevka settlement area," the ministry said in a statement.
Meanwhile, on the same day, May 31, Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Russia's Belgorod region, said that authorities would begin evacuating hundreds of children from the area due to the "deteriorating situation."
"The situation in the border village of Shebekino is getting worse," Gladkov said in a Telegram post.
"We are beginning to evacuate children from the Shebekino and Graivoron districts. Today, the first 300 will be brought to Voronezh," Governor Gladkov announced.
