Hanoi education sector visits and gives gifts to students in flooded areas

Statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training show that after storm No. 3, a total of 67 students and teachers were injured or killed; damage to facilities and teaching equipment was estimated at over VND1,260 billion; and more than 41,500 sets of textbooks were damaged.

In Hanoi alone, at present, there are still more than 20 schools that cannot organize students to return to school; in which, Son Tay town has a number of schools that are still flooded such as: Quang Trung Kindergarten, Xuan Son Kindergarten Area A, Quang Trung Primary School, Trung Hung Primary School, Phung Hung Secondary School, Ngo Quyen Secondary School and Trung Hung Secondary School. These are schools located in low-lying areas, the road to the school or the school yard is flooded, many families of students have to evacuate, unable to go to school.

In Tuyet Nghia commune (Quoc Oai district), the water level of the Tich river rose above alert level 3, causing 291 households with 1,442 people to be flooded, many of which were deeply flooded, and 11 households with 52 people had to be evacuated.

Due to the rapid and complicated development of the flood situation, cadres, teachers, staff and militia forces organized to evacuate the facilities of Tuyet Nghia Kindergarten at night. In addition, there was a section of DH02 road in the commune that was deeply flooded, causing difficulties for traffic, especially for students going to school.

Sharing with students who cannot go to school directly, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training and the Hanoi Education Trade Union visited and gave gifts to students at 4 schools in Son Tay town including: Trung Hung Secondary School, Phung Hung Secondary School (the road to the school is deeply flooded); Ngo Quyen Secondary School, Xuan Son Secondary School (schools with many students living in deeply flooded residential areas) and 3 schools in Tuyet Nghia commune (Quoc Oai district) including: Tuyet Nghia Kindergarten, Tuyet Nghia Primary School, Tuyet Nghia Secondary School.

Through meaningful and practical gifts (school supplies, notebooks, instant noodles, etc.), the Hanoi education sector hopes to share and help students affected by floods so that they have more conditions to continue studying.

“We understand the difficulties that teachers and students are facing. These gifts are not only material support but also sentiments and encouragement from all cadres and teachers of the Hanoi education sector,” said Do Van Nam, Chairman of the Hanoi Education Trade Union.

Previously, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training and the Hanoi Education Trade Union visited and presented gifts to teachers and students in Hoan Kiem, My Duc and Ung Hoa; and directly visited and encouraged students and teachers in Chuong Duong Primary School (Hoan Kiem), Hop Thanh B Primary School (My Duc) and Van Thai Primary School (Ung Hoa).

On the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival, the Department of Education and Training and the Hanoi Education Trade Union presented meaningful gifts (cakes, milk, books, learning equipment, etc.) to 150 students with difficult circumstances and high academic achievements from 3 specialized schools in Hanoi (Nguyen Dinh Chieu Secondary School, Xa Dan Secondary School, Binh Minh Primary School); and at the same time presented gifts and celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with the students.

In addition, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training also contributed 1 billion VND to the Vietnam Education Trade Union to share and help students and teachers affected by storm Yagi in the northern provinces.
