What does new research say about the cancer-preventing effects of ginger?

Recently, studies have demonstrated that ginger's bioactive compounds have potential anti-cancer properties, according to science news site Science Direct .

Many studies have shown that ginger and its active ingredients have the ability to fight against a number of cancer cells, including: breast, cervical, colorectal, leukemia, liver, lung, nasopharyngeal, ovarian, prostate and eye cancers.

More and more studies are showing promising results regarding the anti-cancer effects of ginger.

The main compound in ginger is gingerol. This substance is unstable to heat, so when exposed to high temperatures, it is converted into shogaol. Both gingerol and shogaol have antibacterial, anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties.

How to drink ginger to prevent cancer

Using ginger in cancer prevention has been proven effective in many studies.

In India and Singapore, people drink ginger juice and ginger decoction to prevent cancer.

Palestinians drink ginger decoction to fight breast cancer. They also use a cancer treatment method of using ginger decoction mixed with turmeric and honey, drinking twice a day. Or use ginger tea mixed with fennel seeds and camel milk, drinking 1 cup daily before breakfast.

Another recipe used by Palestinians to control stomach and liver cancer is to use 100 grams of dried ginger powder boiled with water, taken twice daily after meals, according to Science Direct .

Using ginger in cancer prevention has been proven effective by many studies.

New research published in the journal Heliyon has found that a Southeast Asian ginger could be a potential "weapon" in the fight against cancer, according to science news site Science Daily.

It is Kencur ginger (scientific name is Kaempferia galanga L.), also known as Kaempferia galanga, belongs to the ginger family, grown mainly in Southeast Asian countries.

Now, research led by Professor Akiko Kojima of Osaka Metropolitan University (Japan) has demonstrated that Kencur ginger extract and its main active ingredient, ethyl p-methoxycinnamate, have the ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells at the cellular level and in animals.
