The V-League 2023 has concluded with CAHN winning the championship. Hanoi FC finished as runners-up, and they have reason to be disappointed.
Especially since their main striker, Van Quyet, is suspended for 8 matches this season.
Van Quyet is the top domestic scorer in V-League 2023.
Many believe that if the 2022 Vietnamese Golden Ball winner hadn't received a penalty, the purple-shirted team might have played better and their chances of defending their championship title would have increased.
In the 2023 V-League season, the 32-year-old player scored 9 goals, a feat unmatched by any other domestic player. Notably, he scored these goals in just 12 matches.
If he plays regularly, he is perfectly capable of competing for the top scorer title with foreign players.
Despite his excellent form, the possibility of the star from Ha Tay being called up to the Vietnamese national team by coach Troussier remains uncertain.
When coach Park Hang-seo was still in charge, Van Quyet also played quite well in domestic leagues and consistently ranked among the top-scoring Vietnamese players.
But the star player from Hanoi FC is still being overlooked by the South Korean coach.
The Vietnamese national team will soon reconvene and play crucial friendly matches in preparation for the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2024 Asian Cup.
But before this training camp, coach Troussier was facing a major headache with his attacking options, as the strikers he had called up for the last two training camps had not performed well.
For Tien Linh, he was the most important attacking threat under coach Park Hang-seo. However, in the 2023 V-League season, the former Binh Duong player only managed to score a meager 3 goals.
Meanwhile, the other two forwards for the Vietnamese national team, Cong Phuong and Van Toan, are both struggling due to a lack of regular playing time.
As for Cong Phuong, he has only played 2 minutes since joining the Japanese team Yokohama in early 2023.
Meanwhile, Van Toan hasn't played for Seoul E-Land for the past two months due to injury.
Another name frequently called up to the Vietnamese national team recently is Pham Tuan Hai, who has been playing even more impressively with 6 goals.
However, what the 1998-born star has left behind is not outstanding, and his goal-scoring performance is not particularly high.
Meanwhile, to achieve their upcoming important goals, the Vietnamese national team needs a striker who is more skilled, confident, and experienced.
And coincidentally, Văn Quyết possesses everything that the "Golden Star Warriors" need.
The player, born in 1991, is considered a smart striker with good spatial awareness, impressive finishing, extensive experience, and the ability to create opportunities for himself.
Of course, Van Quyet isn't an all-around player, but he's certainly one of the few best strikers that Vietnamese football currently possesses.
But the question is whether coach Troussier will give the 32-year-old a chance or continue to leave this star out of the squad, as he did in the two previous training camps in 2023.
As for Van Quyet, he is very eager to contribute to the national team, especially now that he has begun to enter the twilight of his career.
Therefore, these are the last opportunities for the Hanoi FC star to shine in the Vietnamese national team jersey.
However, only coach Troussier can answer the question of whether Van Quyet will be given a chance in the national team.
