The entire district has 11,487 members, organized into 20 Elderly Associations at the commune and town levels, and 191 branches and sub-branches. Over the years, the Elderly Associations at all levels in the district have implemented many practical and effective activities, proactively coordinating to monitor and exchange information on security and order at the grassroots level. At the same time, officials and members of the Elderly Association have encouraged their children, grandchildren, and all segments of the population, especially young people, to actively prevent and report crimes and build the "All People Protect National Security" movement, preserving family happiness and peace in villages, hamlets, and neighborhoods. They have advised local Party committees and authorities to focus on leadership and direction, implementing various solutions and mobilizing the participation of various sectors and organizations in protecting national security.
Over the past period, the Elderly Associations at all levels have coordinated the establishment of 32 mediation teams with 138 members participating in villages, hamlets, and residential areas. They have detected and promptly mediated and resolved 31 cases of internal conflicts among the people at the grassroots level. In addition, the Association, along with other departments and organizations, propagates and encourages children to avoid violating the law and engaging in social vices… Mr. Nong Van Tuan, Chairman of the Elderly Association of Thuong Cuong commune, Chi Lang district, said: “For many years, cadres, Party members, and members of the Elderly Association of the commune have devoted a lot of effort and intellect to ensuring national security. Throughout the district, 132 elderly people are participating in Party, government, Fatherland Front, and other political and social organizations at the grassroots level; holding positions such as Party branch secretary and deputy secretary; village and residential area head and deputy head; head of the Fatherland Front working committee; and heads of the Veterans Association, Women's Association, Farmers' Association, and Traditional Medicine Association, etc.
In response to the national target program for building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, and protecting the environment, many elderly members have voluntarily demolished fences and structures, mobilized their children, grandchildren, and relatives to donate 20,513 square meters of land, contributed over 6,252 days of labor, and donated more than 2 billion VND to join hands with the local government in building new rural areas. The elderly at the grassroots level always set a good example, encouraging their children and grandchildren to participate in cleaning village roads, alleys, hamlets, collecting waste, building incinerators, and planting trees. Through these efforts, they contribute to maintaining general hygiene and protecting a green, clean, and beautiful environment in residential areas and neighborhoods. In particular, the elderly in Dong Mo town have also implemented the policy of the town's Party Committee and government, directing neighborhood groups to decorate trees with string lights and hang lanterns in front of houses to illuminate the neighborhood and households.
Ms. Hoang Thi Toan, Chairwoman of the Elderly Association of Chi Lang District, affirmed: “The Elderly Association of Chi Lang District has closely and effectively coordinated with the District Police force in the ‘All People Protect National Security’ movement, actively contributing to maintaining political security, order, and social safety, which has been recognized and highly appreciated by the local Party committee and government.
