The main reason for the drop in cattle prices is that the Chinese market has been importing almost nothing for a long time. Meanwhile, recently, a large quantity of cattle from Thailand has flooded the Vietnamese market at lower prices, making it even more difficult to sell cattle domestically and within the province.

Currently, the total number of buffalo and cattle in Thanh Hoa province is only over 417,000, a decrease of more than 20,000 compared to the same period in 2022.

Mr. Le Van Nam, Deputy Head of the Agriculture Department of Quan Hoa District, Thanh Hoa Province
According to Mr. Le Van Nam, Deputy Head of the Agriculture Department of Quan Hoa District, Thanh Hoa Province, Quan Hoa is a mountainous district with many advantages in developing large-scale livestock farming. However, due to prolonged low prices, investment and attention to livestock development and disease prevention have been greatly affected.
The Thanh Hoa Department of Agriculture advises buffalo and cattle farmers to continue monitoring the market to develop appropriate breeding plans, avoiding drastic herd reductions that could disrupt supply. Simultaneously, they should focus on disease prevention and control; and utilize agricultural by-products as feed for buffalo and cattle to reduce costs. In the long term, farm owners and buffalo and cattle breeders should organize production in a chain, linking product consumption with processing to stabilize output and move towards sustainable livestock development.
