According to Dan Tri newspaper reporters, late at night on February 9 (ie the 30th of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin), many places selling Tet ornamental plants in Vinh City ( Nghe An ) were quite deserted.
This year, the number of buyers is low, so some vendors have thrown away peach branches to celebrate New Year's Eve with their families. However, some kumquat and chrysanthemum vendors are still trying to salvage capital by "selling at any price".

Mr. Nguyen Duc Lu (from Van Giang, Hung Yen ) brought 1,000 ornamental plants including kumquat and grapefruit trees to Nghe An to sell on the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin. When there are only a few hours left until the New Year, Mr. Lu still has about 500 kumquat and grapefruit trees.
"I can only sell small trees. This year, there are no buyers for big kumquats or ornamental grapefruits. This crop, I lost 400-500 million VND," Mr. Lu said, unable to hide his sadness.

Late at night, a few customers came to ask to buy. Mr. Lu sold the kumquat tree about 1 meter high for 250,000 VND. According to this man, the price at the garden was 300,000 VND/tree, plus the cost of the average and transportation from Hung Yen to Nghe An was more than 400,000 VND/tree.
"Now I have to sell at any price, to salvage whatever I can, hoping to pay for the rental fee, food expenses...", Mr. Lu said.

Business is sluggish, and he doesn’t think about going home for Tet. This man said he stays here to keep the goods, and around the 4th day of Tet, he will bring them back to Hung Yen to sell to ornamental plant growers, preparing for the next Tet season.
On December 29, Toan and his wife (living in Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An) just returned home from Hanoi . Taking advantage of the last night of the year, they went to buy ornamental plants to display in the house to create a Tet atmosphere.

"On the last day of the year, bonsai trees are deeply discounted, mini kumquat trees are all priced at 50,000 VND/tree, 1-1.5m kumquat trees are only 250,000-300,000 VND/tree. Seeing that the sellers still have a lot, I also bought some to support them, it's almost New Year's Eve, who wants to stay out in the cold rain like this?", Toan shared.
According to records, most people in Vinh City and surrounding areas who went to buy ornamental plants on the night of the 30th of Tet were in a "supportive" mood towards the sellers, and there was no bargaining.

At a kumquat selling point on 3/2 Street (Vinh City, Nghe An), Mr. Hoang Anh and his wife (residing in Hung Loc Commune, Vinh City) are asking for help to carry kumquat pots onto their pickup truck.
"On New Year's Eve, I saw that they still had a lot of kumquat trees at a very cheap price, only 250,000 VND/tree, so I bought some to support them. This is the second trip, about 30 trees. My wife and I bought some to support the seller, and also to give as gifts to our neighbors or to display outside the gate for decoration," Hoang Anh shared.

Mr. Hoang Anh and his wife are also calling on friends to support people selling kumquat and peach blossoms for Tet.
"The New Year's Eve is coming, everyone wants to go home to their family, but perhaps many people selling ornamental plants do not have that joy when there are too many unsold goods, the risk of loss is present. We hope to do something to share with them, so that together we can welcome the new year with more joy," said Ms. Ngoc (Mr. Hoang Anh's wife).
