Representatives from Seven Summit Treks, a mountaineering company in Nepal, confirmed that Kami Rita, 54, reached the summit of Everest on the morning of May 12th, breaking the record for the total number of times conquering the mountain.

Having been a mountain guide for over two decades, Kami Rita first conquered Mount Everest – the 8,849-meter-high peak – in 1994 while working for a commercial expedition. Since then, he has climbed Everest almost annually.

Known as the "Everest Man," Kami Rita was born in 1970 in Thame, a Himalayan village renowned for producing exceptional mountaineers.

Nepalese mountain guides, often from the Sherpa ethnic group, are considered a key contributor to the country's mountaineering industry.

Sherpas are an ethnic minority living in southern Nepal. They originated from Tibet hundreds of years ago and are mainly concentrated around the Everest region.

Therefore, they are capable of working at high altitudes, in conditions of low oxygen – an environment that requires foreigners to spend days or weeks adapting.

Nepalese authorities say they have issued 414 permits to climb Mount Everest during this year's spring climbing season, which runs from April to June.

Most of those hoping to conquer Everest are accompanied by Nepalese guides. This means that more than 800 climbers will be participating in the Everest ascent in the coming weeks.

Nepal, home to eight of the world's ten highest mountains, has long been a favorite destination for adventurous mountaineering enthusiasts.

Spring is the ideal season for mountain climbing activities because of the warm weather and calm winds.

However, the increase in the number of climbers in recent years has led to growing concerns about negative impacts on the environment and the safety of explorers. Most recently, the Supreme Court of Nepal ordered restrictions on the number of permits issued for climbing Everest and other peaks.
