On October 27th, the Vietnam Film Department announced the list of 16 feature films selected to compete at the 2023 Vietnam Film Festival.

The list of participating films is quite diverse in terms of content and genre. Notably among them is "Southern Forest Land" - a new film released on October 13th and which has been the subject of controversy recently.
Victor Vũ's 18+ film , *The Last Wife* , although only officially released on November 1st, has already been selected to compete for the Golden Lotus Award.
Another film that recently premiered but hasn't officially been released in theaters yet, " Hong Ha Nu Si," is also a notable contender in the most important category of this year's film festival.
"Brilliant Ashes ," a film consistently recognized at numerous international film festivals and most recently the 2023 Golden Kite Award for Best Feature Film, is a noteworthy contender at this year's festival.
These films will have to compete with Mrs. Nu's House - the work that still holds the record for the highest-grossing film in Vietnamese cinema history by Tran Thanh with 475 billion VND.
Thus, among the 16 films competing for the Golden Lotus Award this year, there are two films in which Tran Thanh participated as both an actor and producer: "Mrs. Nu's House" and "Southern Forest Land".
The remaining films include: 578; 9; The Girl from the Past; The Little Girl Looking for a Husband; Peach, Pho and Piano; You and Trinh; FANTI; Jasmine; The Anonymous; Mom, Here's the Butterfly; Ten: The Curse Returns.
The Vietnam Film Festival 2023 will take place in Da Lat from November 21-25.
