Restaurants and pubs surround old apartment complex in Hanoi

TPO - The Kim Khi collective area at 658 Truong Dinh (Giap Bat ward, Hoang Mai district, Hanoi ) has been surrounded by restaurants and pubs for many years, posing a potential risk of fire safety. Even the office and warehouse area with steel frame buildings continued to be "transformed" by Hanoi Metal Joint Stock Company, solidly built into pubs, causing outrage among residents.

Reflecting to Tien Phong newspaper, residents of the Kim Khi apartment complex at 658 Truong Dinh (Giap Bat ward, Hoang Mai district, Hanoi) said that many areas of land around the Kim Khi apartment complex managed by Hanoi Kim Khi Joint Stock Company - VNSTEEL have recently been "cut up" and rented out haphazardly, seriously affecting people's lives, posing many potential risks of fire safety and security and order.

Even the land previously used as an office and warehouse with a steel frame building was demolished and solidly built by Hanoi Metal Joint Stock Company to "magically" turn it into a restaurant and beer house.

"State-owned Mau Dich Store - Mau Dich Beer Joint Stock Company" was built on the land that used to be the office and warehouse of Hanoi Metal Joint Stock Company.

The sidewalk in front of this restaurant and beer house was also plowed up to be redone.

Speaking with Tien Phong, the leader of Giap Bat Ward People's Committee said that this project was approved to be renovated and repaired in its original state.

According to the People's Committee of Phap Bat Ward, at the end of 2023, Hanoi Metal Joint Stock Company - VNSTEEL submitted an application to renovate and repair the project at 658 Truong Dinh Street on the grounds that the current office, warehouse, and factory of the Company have deteriorated during the construction process.

Giap Bat Ward People's Committee has inspected the current status, accordingly, the above land has an iron frame house 8.6m high. Of which, the first floor is 5.6m high (area 182m2), the second floor is 3m high (area 65m2).

Based on the need for renovation and repair of leak-proofing and collapse prevention by Hanoi Metal Joint Stock Company, the Ward People's Committee has inspected and recorded the current situation. At the same time, it has requested the Hoang Mai District People's Committee and the District Urban Management Department to consider.

According to residents, to renovate the office and warehouse area into a solid structure, Hanoi Metal Joint Stock Company must be granted a construction permit by the authorities.

In particular, is turning this project into a "huge" restaurant or beer house in accordance with the land's intended use, is it permitted by the competent authority, and does it comply with fire prevention regulations?

"Restaurants and beer bars sprouting up around the area, operating until 11-12pm, will cause noise, insecurity and pose many potential fire safety risks," residents of the Kim Khi apartment complex were upset.
