In an announcement on July 29, Lufthansa Airlines (Germany) suspended flights to Beirut, Lebanon, until July 30. Governments of several countries, including the US, Norway, and Ireland, also urged their citizens to leave Lebanon amid concerns about escalating conflict between Hezbollah and Israel following the July 27 attack on the Golan Heights.
Lufthansa announced that five flights operated by its group airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Eurowings, and Lufthansa, have been temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, at Beirut airport, airlines such as Middle East Airlines (MEA), Turkish Airlines, SunExpress, Aegean Airline, and Ethiopian Air had to adjust or postpone flight schedules to mitigate insurance risks as tensions escalated between Israel and the Hezbollah armed group in Lebanon.
Earlier, on July 28, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati called for a complete ceasefire in the southern part of the country and full implementation of United Nations Resolution 1701 to avoid escalation. On social media platform X, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib called for an international investigation into the rocket attack that killed 12 people, including children, in the village of Majdal Shams in the Golan Heights and warned of widespread retaliation.
Israel's security cabinet has authorized the government to respond to the attack, which it attributes to Hezbollah. Hezbollah, for its part, denies any involvement in the attack.
