On the afternoon of September 26th, within the framework of the 5th Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum, Mr. Phan Van Mai, Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, received Mr. Stefano Lo Russo, Mayor of Torino (Italy).
Expressing his pleasure in welcoming the Mayor of Turin to Ho Chi Minh City for a visit and working trip on the occasion of attending the Ho Chi Minh City Friendship Dialogue and the Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum 2024, Mr. Phan Van Mai expressed his belief that Mr. Stefano Lo Russo's visit would be a foundation for many new cooperation projects and activities between Italy and Vietnam in general, and Ho Chi Minh City and Turin in particular, helping both sides to better understand the untapped potential and opportunities for cooperation.
Congratulating the successful organization of the Friendship Dialogue and the Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum 2024, and expressing his admiration for the dynamic development of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Stefano Lo Russo stated that there is much potential for cooperation between the two cities and that more concrete steps are needed.
Discussing directions for cooperation between the two cities, Mr. Stefano Lo Russo proposed the need to establish cooperation in the following areas: sharing experiences in city management towards standards set by the European Commission (EU); cooperation between businesses in areas of strength such as transportation infrastructure; cooperation in education , culture, arts, and people-to-people exchanges.
Regarding the issue of carbon neutrality, Stefano Lo Russo affirmed his readiness to send experts to the city to provide support and conduct surveys in order to promote more effective cooperation.
Agreeing with the cooperation proposals of the Mayor of Turin (Italy), Mr. Phan Van Mai affirmed that these are practical areas of cooperation that can be implemented in the near future. In addition, given Italy's strengths in heritage conservation and restoration technology, both sides need to strengthen cooperation in the field of heritage conservation.
Comrade Phan Van Mai expressed his desire for cooperation between institutes and universities to update research results on new trends, collaborate on training in new research fields, and connect experts and share experiences in designing and implementing development policies.
