Settle down to make a living
As of mid-August 2025, the whole province has completed supporting 15,064 temporary, dilapidated houses for poor households and policy families, reaching 100% of the plan. Of which, 13,848 houses have been completed and handed over for use, 1,216 houses are being urgently completed. The synchronization of State policies, the participation of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Ministry of Public Security , poverty reduction programs, ethnic minority policies and local movements have created a synergistic strength, mobilizing social resources, helping to realize the goal of settling down and improving the quality of people's lives.
Comrade Le Hong Viet, Chairman of Kien Thiet Commune People's Committee shared: "We determined that removing temporary and dilapidated houses is just the beginning. The ultimate goal is to help people stabilize their lives and escape poverty sustainably. Commune leaders have directed Party cells, the Fatherland Front, and socio-political organizations to closely follow each village, both encouraging their spirit and supporting the connection of preferential loan sources. When people have settled down and are determined, combined with the support of the government, poverty reduction will be truly sustainable."
Housing support policies do not only stop at material value, but have become a spiritual push, provoking changes in people's awareness. From waiting and relying, many households have turned to being proactive and self-reliant. This is the core value, the most sustainable in poverty reduction.
Striving to rise from a new home
In Khuoi Khit village, Kien Thiet commune, Mr. Vang Seo Sung and his wife, Ms. Giang Thi Lan, have built a spacious house of 70 square meters thanks to the support of 50 million VND from the State, preferential loans from the Social Policy Bank and the help of the people. Although the land for production is small, the income is not high, and they have to raise two children who are still in school, but they are not discouraged. In addition to growing corn and acacia on the available land, they do not hesitate to take on extra jobs, from planting corn to clearing grass on hillsides for people in the surrounding area. On favorable days, the couple's daily income is about 500,000 VND/day.
That joy is also present in the family of Mr. Gia Mi Ho, Meo Qua village, Khau Vai commune. His family used to be poor, living in a makeshift bamboo house. Thanks to the support of the National Target Program, in 2025 his family was able to build an 80 m2 flat-roofed house. His two sons work as laborers in Bac Ninh, ensuring their own livelihood, while he stays in his hometown growing corn, raising cows and pigs, earning about 30 million VND each year.
In Hoi Tan village, Son Thuy commune, where 85% of the population are San Diu ethnic people, the economic picture has improved significantly after people received support to build solid houses. Comrade Mai Tien Duong, Party Cell Secretary and Head of Hoi Tan village, said: “People not only feel secure in production but also proactively seek jobs as workers in electronics companies in other provinces, combining animal husbandry and small business. In 2023, Hoi Tan village had 13 poor households, by 2025 there will be only 7 households. The average income is currently 53 million VND/person/year”.
In fact, once they have stable housing, people not only focus on developing their family economy but also actively participate in community movements: contributing labor and money to build concrete roads, repair cultural houses, and build new rural areas. That is an important foundation to strengthen the great solidarity bloc, improve people's lives and realize the goal of sustainable poverty reduction.
