Dak Nong farmers are still worried about agricultural materials

According to Conclusion No. 95, dated September 4, 2024 of the Inspectorate of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, there are currently about 500 establishments producing and trading in agricultural materials under management in the province. These establishments include units supplying fertilizers, pesticides and plant varieties.

During the recent inspection, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development inspected 160 establishments producing and trading in agricultural materials. In general, most of the establishments complied with legal regulations, from ensuring product origin, invoices, documents to listing selling prices.

However, violations still exist, especially in remote areas. Specifically, after randomly taking 15 fertilizer samples for quality testing, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Inspectorate discovered 4 substandard samples, accounting for 26.7%.

According to the assessment of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Inspectorate, the rate of 26.7% of fertilizer samples not meeting quality standards is not low and is a worrying number.

On average, each year, Dak Nong people use about 2.6 million tons of fertilizers of all kinds to care for their crops. Thus, the amount of substandard fertilizers is quite large.

Regarding pesticides, although all tested samples met standards, there were still cases of violations of business regulations, leading to a total fine of more than 14 million VND.

In addition to fertilizers, Dak Nong currently has 336 establishments producing and trading plant varieties. According to the Inspectorate of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, only 53/336 of these establishments have registered and operated according to regulations. In addition, 21/336 establishments have made declarations to the authorities.

The remaining 283 seedling production and trading establishments operate illegally. These establishments mainly produce and supply plant varieties to people without registering their operations. This poses a potential risk of spreading plant varieties of unknown origin or poor quality.

The leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that Dak Nong is a province with a large terrain, with many remote areas, where traffic conditions are still difficult. This makes propaganda, monitoring and inspection of agricultural materials face many obstacles.

People’s awareness, especially in ethnic minority areas, about the role and quality of agricultural inputs is still limited. Counterfeit, fake, and floating goods of unknown origin still exist, making it difficult for authorities to control and handle.

Faced with the above problems, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has proposed a number of solutions to improve the effectiveness of agricultural material management. Accordingly, the agricultural sector has increased the dissemination of knowledge about agricultural materials to the people, especially in remote areas.

Fertilizer quality is the biggest concern of Dak Nong farmers.

The agricultural sector coordinates closely, organizes regular and surprise inspections, and strictly handles commercial fraud. Inspections should focus on production and trading establishments of agricultural materials in areas with high risk of violations.

Fertilizers with fake quality are fertilizers with one or more main quality indicators that only reach 70% or less compared to the registered level in the decision to recognize fertilizers for circulation in Vietnam (except for the main quality indicator of microorganisms).
