After getting married, Mr. Duong Dinh Tam (born in 1974), residing in Group 2, Tan Thanh Ward (Dien Bien Phu City), began building his business but faced many difficulties with capital. With support from the local Party committee, government, and mass organizations, he boldly opened a motorcycle parts business. In 2012, he bought land in Thanh Nua commune to develop a fruit tree farming model. Mr. Tam said: “There is no land available in the ward for farming and livestock models, so I went to buy land in the outskirts of the city. Initially, I only bought 6,000 square meters to plant jackfruit, pomelo, and oranges. After seeing the model develop well, I expanded the area to more than 3 hectares and planted many other types of fruit trees. Besides visiting and learning from many successful models inside and outside the province, I also participated in training courses and technology transfer programs organized by the Farmers' Association. In 2022, I continued to invest in planting 20 hectares of macadamia nuts in Thanh Minh commune.”
Currently, in addition to the motorcycle parts business, Mr. Tam's family owns over 3 hectares of land planted with various fruit trees (jackfruit, pomelo, orange, apple), cardamom, and raises 200 chickens and 10 breeding pigs, generating an income of over 1 billion VND per year. This model provides stable employment for 8 workers with a salary of 6 million VND per person per month and hundreds of seasonal workers with a daily wage of 250,000 - 300,000 VND per person. For many years, Mr. Tam has been recognized as an outstanding farmer and businessman in the city and province.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Chairwoman of the Tan Thanh Ward Farmers' Association, said: The ward's Farmers' Association has 660 members, operating in 10 branches. Most members conduct business and trade at home, while some members develop farms outside the ward due to a lack of land for investment. Over the years, the ward's Farmers' Association has propagated and encouraged farmer members to participate in production and business, resulting in the emergence of exemplary economic development models such as members Duong Dinh Tam, Hoang Van Dung, Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Nguyen Van Ho, Phung Van Tien, Tran Ngoc Duong, Dang Thi Nhan… with incomes ranging from 300 million to 1 billion VND per year, creating jobs for many other workers. The entire association has 8 households achieving excellent production and business status at the provincial level, 12 households at the city level, and 12 households at the grassroots level.
Identifying the movement of farmers competing to excel in production and business as a central focus, the Farmers' Association of Dien Bien Phu City has actively propagated and organized members to register as outstanding production and business households at all levels according to criteria; and coordinated the transfer of technology. In addition, they have organized conferences to summarize, evaluate, and replicate advanced models; and conducted study tours to learn from effective models to apply to local production and business. As a result, the movement has increasingly spread widely across many business sectors, including crop cultivation, livestock farming, small-scale handicrafts, and services; creating motivation to encourage members to enthusiastically compete in production, creating conditions for members to exchange experiences, best practices, and effective models, helping each other to legitimately enrich themselves. The entire city has 346 households achieving outstanding production and business status at all levels; including 13 at the central level, 31 at the provincial level, 116 at the city level, and 186 at the grassroots level.
From the movement for excellent production and business, exemplary collectives and individuals have emerged. For example, member Vang A Chau from Na Pen village, Na Nhan commune, has a fish farming model covering 1 hectare, generating an income of 200-250 million VND per year. Another member, Dang Cong Tien from Huoi Pha village, Him Lam ward, has a clean pig farming model adhering to VietGAP standards, generating an income of 350-450 million VND per year and providing stable employment for 4-5 workers, with an income of 4-7 million VND per person per month…
Mr. Do Thanh Cong, Chairman of the Dien Bien Phu City Farmers' Association, said: The movement "Farmers competing in excellent production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty" has created momentum to encourage farmers to actively transform the agricultural production structure, gradually linking along the value chain, promoting the development of large-scale commercial agriculture; contributing to creating solidarity, mutual support, and helping each other to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, maintaining political stability and social order and safety in the area. In the coming time, the Association will continue to launch and improve the quality of the emulation movement, mobilizing farmer members to develop the strengths, conditions, and potential of each commune and ward to develop the household economy…
