From November 26th to December 1st, the Vietnam National Academy of Music ( Hanoi ) will host the 2023 Autumn Music Competition and the 2023 National Chamber Music, Opera, and Choral Singing Competition . This competition is organized by the Department of Performing Arts in collaboration with the Vietnam Musicians Association, the Vietnam National Academy of Music, and others.
According to information from the Organizing Committee, the 2023 Autumn Music Competition has 107 contestants and is organized into two categories: Chamber music solos (piano solos and violin solos) and Chamber music ensembles. The 2023 National Chamber Music - Opera - Choral Singing Competition has 60 participants and is organized into two categories: Chamber Music - Opera and Choral Singing.

Contestants or groups of contestants participating in the competition must be Vietnamese citizens of the age specified for each competition category, actors currently working at professional art organizations, both public and private, with legal status, or lecturers or students currently studying at professional art training institutions, both public and private, operating legally in Vietnam (for contestants from private art organizations, a minimum of 12 months of professional activity is required up to the year of the competition).
Speaking at the press conference introducing the two competitions, Ms. Tran Ly Ly, Acting Director of the Department of Performing Arts, emphasized that the two competitions aim to discover talents in chamber music performance, encourage and honor dedicated groups and individuals in exploring and absorbing the finest aspects of world chamber music, enriching the genre of music and Vietnamese culture and art.
The 2023 National Chamber Music, Opera, and Choral Singing Competition is a competition where contestants have the opportunity to showcase their abilities and create new values. We are very keen to preserve and develop chamber music and solo and ensemble performances, as well as the singing contestants, so that they can contribute to the overall development of the country in this era of integration," said Ms. Ly Ly.
According to Ms. Tran Ly Ly, these are two high-quality and prestigious competitions for Vietnamese music in general and chamber music in particular. Therefore, the judging panel consists of leading educators, researchers, and artists in Vietnam with high expertise, extensive experience, and prestige in teaching and artistic creation. There are four judging panels for the 2023 Autumn Music Competition and the 2023 National Chamber Music - Opera - Choral Competition .
Professor Ngo Van Thanh, Professor Tran Thu Ha, and Associate Professor Nguyen Huy Phuong will serve as the Chairpersons of the Judging Panel for the 2023 Autumn Music Competition; People's Artist Quang Tho will be the Chairperson of the Judging Panel for the 2023 National Chamber Music, Opera, and Choral Singing Competition. Other members of the judging panels include People's Artist Do Quoc Hung, Meritorious Artist Bui Cong Duy, and others. In addition, each judging panel includes an international judge from Russia, South Korea, and Hong Kong.

Meritorious Artist Bui Cong Duy serves as a judge for the Autumn Music Competition.
Meritorious Artist Bui Cong Duy - Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, and winner of the First Prize at the 1990 Autumn Music Competition, said that he still remembers that year's competition. Besides contestants from the two conservatories (Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi), there were also contestants studying in Russia. For example, artist Nguyen Cong Thang, who had returned from Russia at the time, also participated in the competition.
"All the artists who participated in the competition and were honored are very mature and very successful. The first batches of participants have all become very famous, such as Khoi Nam, Khoi Nguyen, Tang Thanh Nam, Bach Tra..."
"These are all people who won scholarships to study abroad, and they have all become very famous artists and hold many important positions in art organizations. The chamber music group has also achieved many accomplishments and from there built a music movement. These competitions also set standards for subsequent competitions," said Meritorious Artist Bui Cong Duy.
The closing ceremony is scheduled to take place on December 2nd at the Hanoi Grand Opera House, with awards including First, Second, and Third prizes for individual contestants and groups in each category and each group, as well as supplementary awards (Promising Talent Award for Chamber Music/Opera Singers; Style Award for Choirs; Effective Piano Accompanist Award for Chamber Music/Opera Singers) associated with the names of participating organizations.
