Floodwaters flooded Hong Son commune and flowed rapidly, turning National Highway 1 through Lam Dong province into a river.

In the early morning of December 4, floodwaters combined with heavy rain from the evening of December 3 caused many areas near Gop intersection in Hong Son commune, Lam Dong province to be deeply flooded.

According to local residents, from 2am on December 4, the water level on National Highway 1 at km1678 (Gop intersection) rose, making it impossible for vehicles to pass. Residents in deeply flooded areas were evacuated to safety by local authorities, with some places being half-submerged.

On the morning of December 4, floodwaters were flowing like a river on National Highway 1 at km1678. Many people's belongings were carried away by the water. Local authorities blocked both ends near km1678 of National Highway 1 to prevent vehicles from passing through. Local residents said this was the first time National Highway 1 was flooded at the Gop intersection. High-chassis trucks were used to transport rescue forces through the deep floodwaters. Jet skis were mobilized to the scene to assist in evacuating people.

Some medians were displaced by strong currents.

National Highway 1 through Luong Son commune was also flooded, making it impossible for vehicles to circulate.

Also this morning, many areas in Ham Thuan commune, Ham Thuan Bac, Ham Thang ward... in Binh Thuan province (old) were also heavily flooded due to the Quao river reservoir releasing floodwaters, accompanied by heavy rain.

Earlier in the early morning of the same day, Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. announced an increase in water flow regulation through the spillway of Song Quao reservoir, Ham Thuan Bac commune, Lam Dong province.

As of 3:00 a.m. on December 4, the water level of Song Quao Lake was at +90.90 m, 0.73 m higher than the normal water level and was gradually increasing to the reinforced water level (+91.10 m), the total water flow being regulated through the spillway was about 311 m3/s, the water flow to the lake was still maintained at more than 465 m3/s. The reason was that the upstream area of ​​Song Quao Lake had heavy rain.

Rescue forces set out to assist people in flooded areas.

According to Binh Thuan Irrigation Works Exploitation Company, to ensure the safety of the project when the Song Quao reservoir basin continues to have rain, the Company will continue to increase the regulated flow through the spillway of Song Quao reservoir to lower the water level in the lake.

To avoid damage to people in affected areas, the Company requests the People's Committees of relevant communes and wards to inform people in the downstream area of ​​the Song Quao reservoir dam (along the Cai River) and the river mouth of the situation and proactively take safety prevention plans.

Currently, local authorities in flooded areas are also coordinating with forces to urgently deploy rescue operations.
