At Le Quy Don Primary School in To Hieu Ward, the learning atmosphere has been vibrant and orderly from the very first days. This school year, the school received a smart classroom with many modern devices from the Provincial Party Secretary, creating motivation for teachers and students to promote the application of information technology in teaching and improve the quality of education .
Ms. Kieu Bich Lien, Deputy Principal of Le Quy Don Primary School, said: "The school has 1,165 students in 25 classes. Determined to successfully complete the school year's tasks, from the very first week, the school's management board directed the subject departments to implement lessons according to the curriculum framework. Teachers actively innovated methods and applied information technology to increase visual appeal and create interest for students."
At Co Ma High School in Co Ma commune, with 688 students in 16 classes, the attendance rate in the first week reached 100%. During the weekly flag-raising ceremony, the school coordinated with the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police and the Commune Police to organize a pledge signing ceremony for all students to abide by the Road Traffic Law and prevent social evils, contributing to raising self-awareness and discipline among students.
Mr. Bac Cam Phen, Principal of Co Ma High School, shared: "The school aims to improve the overall quality of education, focusing on enhancing the knowledge of 12th-grade students and striving for a 100% graduation rate this school year. At the same time, we emphasize strengthening life skills education, ethics, and cultural conduct for students. Homeroom teachers regularly monitor and remind students to adhere to classroom rules, attend school on time, and develop disciplined habits from the beginning of the school year."
For the 2025-2026 school year, the Department of Education and Training has identified two key tasks: promoting digital transformation and improving the quality of education. In the first week of the new school year, schools throughout the province conducted surveys and assessments to evaluate students' abilities, thereby developing appropriate teaching methods, nurturing gifted students, and supporting weaker students.
Mr. Nguyen Van Chien, Director of the Department of Education and Training, stated: "A new feature for this school year is that the Department will organize common tests and surveys for all grade levels from primary to high school, instead of allowing schools to create their own tests as before. The test creation and grading will be done synchronously on the OLM system, ensuring objectivity, transparency, and accurately reflecting student performance. Based on the survey results, the Department will direct schools to focus on addressing shortcomings, thereby genuinely improving the quality of education."
In addition, the Department of Education and Training is also focusing on addressing the teacher shortage. The province currently has over 23,500 administrators and teachers at all levels. However, a review reveals a shortage of over 1,000 teachers, especially those teaching specialized subjects such as English and Information Technology. Initially, the Department will reassign and second teachers between schools to promptly compensate for the shortage; in the long term, it will propose a plan for new recruitment to ensure sufficient personnel for all levels of education.
Establishing order and discipline quickly at the beginning of the school year is a favorable start for the education sector in Son La province to successfully implement its tasks for the school year, gradually improve the quality of education, and meet the requirements of fundamental and comprehensive educational reform in the current period.
