Speaking during a working trip to Guangxi province on April 5, Politburo member and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Wang Yi emphasized that Guangxi needs to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Vietnam and continue to improve cross-border infrastructure connectivity.
Mr. Wang Yi asked Guangxi to thoroughly implement the spirit of important instructions given by General Secretary Xi Jinping when he worked there, continue to strengthen the construction of border gates, continuously add new impetus to promote high-level opening-up of Guangxi to the outside world, promote China-ASEAN cooperation, and become a favorable land for domestic and international dual circulation market activities.
According to Xinhua News Agency , Mr. Wang Yi surveyed the project to build a smart border gate at Huu Nghi Quan, the China-ASEAN Industrial Cooperation Zone in Chongzuo, the Pingxiang General Bonded Area, the China-ASEAN Fruit Trade Center in Chongzuo, the Pingxiang Railway Border Gate, and the Ban Gioc Waterfall (Vietnam) - Detian (China) cross-border tourism cooperation area.

Mr. Wang Yi said that Guangxi is a key autonomous region in China's southwestern border, an important gateway for exchanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN, and has a special position in the overall development and diplomacy of the country.
Guangxi should actively serve the building of a China-ASEAN community of shared future, deeply integrate into the construction of the “Belt and Road”, constantly highlight the “golden signboard” of the China-ASEAN Expo, and create an international route open to ASEAN.
Mr. Wang Yi emphasized that Guangxi needs to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Vietnam, consolidate the public opinion and social foundation of China-Vietnam friendship, continue to improve cross-border infrastructure connectivity and strive to build a convenient smart border gate, comprehensively develop, friendly exchanges and comprehensive security, and make more contributions to building a China-Vietnam community of shared future of strategic significance.
Previously, on April 4, Mr. Wang Yi held talks with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son in Guangxi as Chinese Foreign Minister.
In December 2023, after concluding his visit to Vietnam, Chinese General Secretary and President Xi Jinping also worked in Guangxi. Here, he emphasized that Guangxi needs to continuously add new impetus to promote high-level opening to the outside world and cooperation with ASEAN.
