The State Security Service (SBU) said last month it had arrested two guard colonels accused of plotting to assassinate President Zelenskyy and other officials, including military intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov.

Introducing Colonel Oleksiy Morozov to staff on Monday, Mr Zelenskyy said the new SBU chief's main task was to ensure that only people who pledged allegiance to Ukraine joined the agency.
“And of course, this body must eliminate anyone who does not choose Ukraine for themselves or discredits the state protection agency,” Mr. Zelenskyy said on Telegram.
President Zelenskyy had previously fired Mr Morozov's predecessor, Serhiy Rud, in May, two days after the SBU arrested its employees on charges of leaking classified information to a foreign country.
