Although the Oriental Aunt has just been discovered in Dakrong Nature Reserve.
On September 3, the Nam Quang Tri Special-Use Forest Management Board said the results were determined using specialized software Wildlife Insight, thereby adding to the biodiversity database of the reserve.
Previously, the bird fauna in Dakrong Nature Reserve was counted as having 201 species, belonging to 43 families. With the new discovery, this list continues to be expanded, affirming the unique biological value of the Truong Son range - considered one of the four endemic bird regions of Vietnam.
The newly recorded bird species include: long-tailed shrike, mountain jay, white-eared bulbul, black-throated bulbul, great bluebird, oriental parakeet, white-browed thrush, white-browed forest swallow and nightingale.
Two rare species, the Oriental parasol and the red-crowned crane, are considered to have high conservation value, contributing to maintaining the ecological balance of the forest.
A representative of the Nam Quang Tri Special-Use Forest Management Board said that the discovery of new species not only shows the effectiveness of applying science and technology in research, but also provides an important scientific basis for developing solutions to preserve, restore and sustainably develop the special-use forest ecosystem.
The starling is one of two newly discovered bird species with high conservation value.
In the coming time, the unit will continue to coordinate with scientific agencies and conservation organizations at home and abroad to improve the effectiveness of monitoring, researching and protecting rare wild animals and plants.
Dakrong Nature Reserve is located in the south of Quang Tri province, one of four endemic bird areas of Vietnam, belonging to the Central Truong Son forest ecosystem. This is a place where many types of vegetation and typical habitats converge.
Thanks to its diverse habitats, Dakrong Nature Reserve is home to 1,576 plant species, 97 mammal species, 201 bird species and 49 reptile and amphibian species, many of which are rare species listed in the Vietnam Red Book.
