On October 17th, the Criminal Police Department of Hanoi City Police announced that the Special Task Force of the Criminal Police had arrested wanted fugitive Hoang Thi Phuong Trang (41 years old, residing in Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi).
According to authorities, in September 2013, Trang was sentenced by the Hanoi City People's Court to 15 years in prison for fraud and appropriation of property. At that time, Trang was raising a young child, so she was released on bail.
However, in 2016, Trang fled her residence and was issued an arrest warrant by the Hanoi Police.
Hoang Thi Phuong Trang underwent plastic surgery to evade arrest.
During the investigation, the police determined that Trang constantly moved through many provinces and cities, working various jobs to conceal her identity. Later, lured by others, Trang illegally crossed the border into Cambodia, working in casinos and massage parlors.
During that time, Trang used the aliases Thuy or Linh and underwent cosmetic surgery to alter her face.
Upon returning to Vietnam, Trang was tracked by authorities and discovered hiding in Nghe An province , working as a massage therapist at a hotel.
On October 13th, the Hanoi Police Special Criminal Investigation Team raided a rented room in Hung Phuc ward, Vinh city, and arrested Hoang Thi Phuong Trang.
The suspect was subsequently handed over by the Criminal Police Department to Detention Center No. 1 of the Hanoi Police.
