Today, October 23, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a decision approving the investment policy for the project to expand the North-South expressway in the East, Cam Lo - La Son section.

Accordingly, the project has a route length of about 98.35 km; the route follows the Cam Lo - La Son expressway currently in operation. The starting point (Cam Lo) is at km 0+000, connecting to the end point of the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway project in Cam Hieu commune, Cam Lo district, Quang Tri province. The end point (La Son) is at about km 102+200, connecting to the starting point of the La Son - Hoa Lien project in Loc Bon commune, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province.

Regarding scale and technical standards: Investing in expanding the roadbed, road surface and works on the route from 2 lanes to 4 lanes. The total investment of the project is about 6,488 billion VND from the state budget.

Of which, the general reserve capital for the medium-term public investment plan from the central budget for the period 2021 - 2025, corresponding to the increased central budget revenue in 2023 approved by the National Assembly, is VND 5,488 billion; the capital source for the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026 - 2030 is VND 1,000 billion. Regarding the project implementation time: preparation from 2024, basically completed in 2025. The Ministry of Transport (MOT) is the project's managing agency.

The project aims to gradually complete the transport network in the region according to the plan, promote the role of the North-South economic corridor connecting localities, ensuring synchronization and modernity; improve the exploitation capacity, ensure traffic safety on the Cam Lo - La Son expressway and promote the effectiveness of the North-South expressways in the East.

The project also aims to create momentum to promote socio-economic development, contribute to ensuring regional defense and security; promote the potential and strengths of Quang Tri province, Thua Thien Hue province in particular and the provinces in the North Central and Central Central regions in general.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Transport to take full responsibility for the proposal to approve the project investment policy and the information and data in the project pre-feasibility study report, the information in the report on acceptance and explanation of appraisal opinions of the Ministry of Planning and Investment and relevant ministries, branches and localities; organize the preparation and approval of the project feasibility study report in accordance with the provisions of law; organize the selection of qualified contractors to implement the project in accordance with the provisions of law. The Ministry of Transport closely coordinates with the People's Committees of Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces and relevant ministries and agencies in the process of project implementation.
