On the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2024), on July 18, a delegation from the Provincial Party Committee, Provincial People's Council, Provincial People's Committee, and Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, led by Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Trinh Tuan Sinh, laid wreaths and offered incense at the memorial of General Vo Nguyen Giap, the Martyrs' Memorial on Road 20 Quyet Thang, Tam Co Cave, the tomb of Nguyen Thi Sang, and other martyrs' cemeteries in Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces.

The delegation included members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee: Nguyen Ngoc Tien, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Internal Affairs Department; Tran Phu Ha, Director of the Provincial Police Department, along with representatives from the leadership of several departments, agencies, and units.

In Quang Binh province, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Trinh Tuan Sinh and members of the delegation laid flowers and offered incense at the tomb of General Vo Nguyen Giap in Vung Chua, Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district. In a solemn and moving atmosphere, the delegation observed a moment of silence to remember and express profound gratitude to the outstanding disciple of President Ho Chi Minh, the brilliant and talented general of the nation and the world , the elder brother of the Vietnam People's Army.

Next, the delegation visited and laid flowers and offered incense at Tho Loc Martyrs' Cemetery in Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province. This is the resting place of more than 500 officers and soldiers of the 25th Youth Volunteer Team under the heroic Construction Unit 67, including more than 200 martyrs who were sons and daughters of Thanh Hoa province.

At the Martyrs' Memorial Temple on Road 20 Quyet Thang, Tam Co Cave, located in Xuan Son commune, Bo Trach district, the delegation respectfully expressed their boundless gratitude for the heroic sacrifices of the soldiers and youth volunteers in general, and the eight youth volunteer martyrs from Hoang Hoa district in particular, who were tasked with ensuring traffic flow on the vital road connecting the eastern and western Truong Son mountain ranges, providing support to the Southern battlefield.

On November 14, 1972, while soldiers and youth volunteers were on duty on Route 20 Quyet Thang, American planes bombed and devastated the area. At that time, a squad of four young men and four young women, mostly in their 20s, took refuge in a cave. However, the relentless bombing struck a large section of rock, burying the cave entrance. Although their comrades tried various rescue methods for several days afterward, due to the massive rock and the rudimentary rescue techniques, the eight young men and women bravely perished.

The war is long over, but the names of those eight sons of Thanh Hoa still resonate, becoming legends on the Road 20 of Victory. They will forever be exemplary models of patriotism, indomitable will, courage, and readiness to fight and sacrifice for the ideals of national independence and socialism.

In Quang Binh province, the delegation also visited and offered incense at the grave of martyr Nguyen Thi Sang, from Thanh Hoa city, who died at Y Ta cave, Ba Thang slope on Road 20 Quyet Thang.
