Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha directly directed the repair of landslides on the La Son

On the morning of October 29, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha inspected the work of overcoming the consequences of floods and landslides that led to traffic congestion on the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway, through Nam Dong commune, Hue city.

La Son - Hoa Lien highway landslide causes traffic jam

Reporting to the Deputy Prime Minister, the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board (representative of the investor of the La Son – Hoa Lien Expressway project) said that prolonged heavy rains caused flash floods, forcing many locations on the route to be temporarily closed due to flooding and strong currents. Some sections suffered from landslides and cracked road surfaces.

On the morning of October 28, at Km42 ( Da Nang City), a serious landslide occurred, thousands of cubic meters of rock and soil spilled onto the road surface. Machinery and human resources were urgently mobilized to clear about 2,000 cubic meters of rock and soil, reopening one lane. It is expected that the entire repair work will take about two more days to complete.

On the La Son - Hoa Lien highway, there was also a landslide incident on the section passing through Khe Tre commune, Hue city; cracks on the road surface on the section passing through Ta Lang - Gian Bi village, Hai Van ward, Da Nang city.

The La Son - Hoa Lien Expressway Project (connecting Hue City with Da Nang City) started construction at the end of 2013. By April 2022, phase 1 of the project was completed and put into operation the 66km long, 12m wide La Son - Hoa Lien section.

Faced with the above situation, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha directed that it is necessary to re-evaluate the entire expressway, including geological items, from design to construction, with the participation of independent agencies, to accurately determine the causes of landslides and flooding.

At the same time, it is emphasized that the current recovery is not yet complete. Many locations with light rain are also affected, heavy rain is more serious, posing a potential danger to people and vehicles.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested relevant units to have fundamental solutions to prevent the incident from recurring, and to review the entire design area, materials, and construction structure to ensure long-term safety along the entire highway.
