Overall, in the first 11 months of 2024, the industrial production index is estimated to have increased by 8.4% compared to the same period last year, with Phu Tho leading the country in growth rate.
According to socio -economic data released by the General Statistics Office on the morning of December 6th, the industrial production index (IIP) for November 2024 is estimated to have increased by 2.3% compared to the previous month and by 8.9% compared to the same period last year.
Specifically, the processing and manufacturing sector increased by 11.2%; the electricity production and distribution sector increased by 5.5%; the water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment sector increased by 6.7%; while the mining sector decreased by 9.8%.
Overall, for the first 11 months of 2024, the Industrial Production Index (IIP) is estimated to increase by 8.4% compared to the same period last year (compared to a 0.9% increase in the same period of 2023).
Specifically, the processing and manufacturing sector increased by 9.7% (compared to a 1.0% increase in the same period of 2023), contributing 8.5 percentage points to the overall growth; the electricity production and distribution sector increased by 10.2%, contributing 0.9 percentage points; the water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment sector increased by 9.6%, contributing 0.2 percentage points; and the mining sector decreased by 7.3%, reducing the overall growth by 1.2 percentage points.
Conversely, the Industrial Production Index (IIP) of some sectors showed low increases or decreases, including crude oil and natural gas extraction (down 12.2%); hard coal and lignite mining (down 5.3%); production of other non-metallic mineral products (up 0.6%); beverage production (up 0.8%); and production of other transport equipment (up 2.7%).
Regarding the industrial production situation of localities nationwide in the first 11 months of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, the report of the General Statistics Office noted that 60 localities had an increase in production index and 3 localities had a decrease in production index.
Several localities showed high growth in the manufacturing industry's production index for the first 11 months of 2024 compared to the same period last year, including: Phu Tho (up 42.1%); Lai Chau (up 39.9%); Bac Giang (up 28.3%); Quang Nam (up 20.7%); and Thanh Hoa (up 19.3%).
Localities with high increases in the electricity production and distribution index include: Khanh Hoa (148.5%); Dien Bien (51.4%); Cao Bang (49.8%); Tra Vinh (46.5%); Lai Chau (39.6%); and Son La (36.4%).
Localities with high increases in the mining industry's production index include: Cao Bang (up 27.0%); Thanh Hoa (up 13.6%); and Quang Nam (up 11.2%).
Conversely, some localities had low or declining growth in the manufacturing industry's production index for the first 11 months of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year: Dak Nong increased by 3.1%; Quang Tri increased by 3%; Ha Tinh decreased by 4.8%; Gia Lai decreased by 1.1%; Quang Ngai decreased by 0.9%.
Localities with low or declining growth in the electricity production and distribution sector index: Quang Tri increased by 3%; Bac Lieu increased by 2.2%; Lang Son decreased by 14.8%; Quang Ngai decreased by 5.8%; Gia Lai decreased by 4.8%; Lam Dong decreased by 3.9%.

According to the General Statistics Office, in the first 11 months of 2024, several key industrial products saw significant increases compared to the same period of the previous year, including: automobiles (up 22.4%); steel bars and angles (up 21.7%); textiles made from natural fibers (up 16%); petroleum products (up 15.9%); refined sugar (up 14.8%); rolled steel (up 14.1%); NPK compound fertilizer (up 11.9%); powdered milk (up 11.5%); processed seafood (up 11%); electricity production (up 10%); and urea fertilizer (up 9%).
Conversely, some products decreased compared to the same period last year: natural gas decreased by 17.8%; liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) decreased by 14%; crude oil extraction decreased by 6%; coal (clean coal) decreased by 5.3%; mobile phones decreased by 4.2%; beer decreased by 2.1%; and alumina decreased by 1.2%.
Regarding the number of workers employed in industrial enterprises, the report shows that as of November 1, 2024, there was a 0.7% increase compared to the same period the previous month and a 4.4% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
Specifically, employment in state-owned enterprises increased by 0.1% and decreased by 0.1%; in non-state enterprises, it increased by 0.7% and increased by 2.7%; and in foreign-invested enterprises, it increased by 0.8% and increased by 5.3%.
By sector, the number of workers employed in mining enterprises remained unchanged compared to the same period last month and decreased by 1.1% compared to the same period last year; the manufacturing sector increased by 0.8% and 4.8%; the electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning production and distribution sector remained unchanged and decreased by 0.4%; and the water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment sector increased by 0.2% and 1.1%.
