On the occasion of Hung Kings' Commemoration Anniversary - Hung Temple Festival in 2024, Phu Tho province will organize many rich and diverse activities with the desire to bring visitors new experiences.

A series of rich and attractive events during the Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival in 2024 will offer visitors an unforgettable experience.

Activities that leave a mark

According to Mr. Ho Dai Dung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Tho province, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival and the Hung Kings Land Culture and Tourism Week in 2024 will take place from April 9th ​​to April 18th (i.e., from the 1st to the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month) in Viet Tri city, the Hung Kings Historical Relic Site, and districts, towns, and cities in the province.

The ceremonial part will be organized in a solemn, dignified, respectful, communal, safe, civilized, and economical manner, with many important rituals such as: the Commemoration Ceremony for National Ancestor Lac Long Quan and the offering of incense to commemorate Ancestress Au Co on the 6th day of the 3rd lunar month (April 14, 2024); the Commemoration Ceremony for Hung Kings and the laying of flowers at the relief sculpture "Uncle Ho speaking with officers and soldiers of the Vanguard Army" on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month (April 18, 2024); and the incense offering ceremony to commemorate the Hung Kings by districts, towns, and cities in the province from the 1st to the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month (April 9-18, 2024).

The content of the festival is closely linked to cultural, sports , and tourism events, forming a series of activities for the Culture and Tourism Week that contribute to showcasing the unique cultural identity of the ancestral land, promoting the potential and strengths of Phu Tho's cultural tourism resources, creating an attractive appeal to tourists from all over the country to attend the Hung Temple Festival and to visit and experience tourism in the ancestral land in the future.

Many exciting activities will take place, including the opening ceremony of the Hung Temple Festival and the Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week in the Year of the Dragon 2024, held at the Central Festival Stage - Hung Temple Historical Site.

Other activities organized at the Hung Temple Historical Site throughout the festival include: Cultural camps and exhibitions promoting and introducing typical products; Phu Tho folk art and music festival; Artistic orchid exhibition; Rice cake wrapping and cooking competition; Lion-Dragon dance performances (on the 7th day of the 3rd lunar month) in the ceremonial axis area - Festival Center; and traditional folk games and sports activities; Procession of palanquins from communes, wards, and towns surrounding the historical site to Hung Temple on the 7th day of the 3rd lunar month (April 15, 2024)...

Activities taking place in the center of Viet Tri city include: Exhibition of artifacts, world documentary heritage, books, newspapers, and photographic documents at the Hung Vuong Museum - Phu Tho Provincial Library and the Hung Vuong Museum; Trade fair and OCOP product exhibition at Bao Da Stadium (Duu Lau ward, Viet Tri city); "Viet Tri Livemusic" street music program at Van Lang Park; performances of ancient Xoan singing from March 6th to March 10th (lunar calendar) in the ancient Xoan singing wards of Viet Tri city; Open boat racing competition at Van Lang Park lake on March 6th (lunar calendar); Hung Vuong Cup volleyball tournament from March 3rd to March 6th (lunar calendar).

In particular, the art program and high-altitude fireworks display at the South Stage of Van Lang Park on the evening of the 9th day of the 3rd lunar month brought a joyful atmosphere, entertaining a large number of people and tourists who came to the ancestral land.

In localities and districts with relics dedicated to the worship of King Hung and historical figures of the Hung Dynasty, plans are being developed to organize incense offering ceremonies to commemorate King Hung and other ancestors at the relic sites. People are encouraged to prepare meals and offerings to light incense at home in remembrance, thereby promoting the beautiful moral traditions of the Vietnamese people and contributing to the preservation of the heritage value of the Hung King worshiping belief in Phu Tho.

Launching the tour "To the UNESCO Heritage Site"

According to Ms. Phung Thi Hoa Le, Head of the Tourism Management Department of the Phu Tho Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival in 2024 will feature a tour called "Visiting UNESCO Heritage Sites". This tour will use Hung Temple as the main starting point to visit other scenic spots in the province.

The one-day tour offers two options: Hung Temple, Lai Len Shrine, Hung Lo Ancient Village (or Hung Temple - Lai Len Shrine); the two-day, one-night tour includes: Hung Temple, Hung Lo Ancient Communal House, Tam Giang Temple, Long Coc Tea Hill, Wyham Thanh Thuy Resort. The three-day, two-night tour includes: Hung Temple, Long Coc Tea Hill, and Xuan Son National Park.

According to Ms. Le, tourists participating in this tour will have the opportunity to practice the Hung Kings worship tradition – an intangible cultural heritage of humanity – at the Hung Temple historical site; enjoy the Xoan singing style – an intangible cultural heritage of humanity recognized by UNESCO; and visit the ancient Hung Lo communal house – a complex of cultural relics typical of the ancestral land; and the Lai Len shrine – the birthplace of Phu Tho Xoan singing. Tourists will also visit the Tam Giang Temple, a 1,300-year-old temple located at the confluence of three rivers: the Red River, the Lo River, and the Da River…

In particular, during this tour, visitors will also be able to admire the stunning, poetic scenery of Long Coc tea hills. This is one of the most attractive destinations in Tan Son district, Phu Tho province. In addition, visitors can go trekking in the forest, learn about the forest ecosystem, explore the scenery in Xuan Son National Park, and enjoy the local Muong cuisine.

Ms. Phung Thi Hoa Le stated that, on this occasion, Phu Tho's tourism industry is implementing a program to link and cooperate in tourism development among 8 expanded Northwestern provinces with Ho Chi Minh City, creating many attractive tourism routes to attract tourists such as "Journey to the Roots" and "Linked Tourism - Northwestern Arc". At the same time, the province is linking with Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeastern provinces by receiving tourists arriving at Noi Bai Airport to visit and stay in Phu Tho and tour the Northwestern provinces.
