Recently, Phung The Hung (27 years old, residing in Bac Ly town, Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province) once again astonished many people by revealing that his family had grown a jackfruit weighing nearly 70kg, breaking previous records such as the jackfruit in Lang Son and Thanh Hoa weighing 56kg.
This "super huge" jackfruit was harvested by Mr. Hung's family last year.
Mr. Hung said that his family has been growing a jackfruit tree of the long-fruited Malaysian variety for 8 years. The tree started bearing fruit in its fourth year. Each season, the tree produces 2-3 fruits, each weighing about 60-70kg and measuring about 80cm in length.
Because the fruit is large and the tree trunk is small, Mr. Hung has to find a way to support the jackfruit; otherwise, the heavy fruit will break off. Normally, jackfruit trees bear fruit at the same time as the local variety, or like last year, Mr. Hung's jackfruit tree bore fruit in the winter.
Whenever they harvest the jackfruit, his family needs two people to lift this giant fruit. However, because it's a long-fruited variety, cutting it open isn't too difficult.
"Inside the jackfruit, there are many segments, each a bright yellow color, about 15-20cm long, and the fibrous part is also sweet. When I ate it, I found its taste quite similar to local jackfruit," Hung revealed.

Every year, when Mr. Hung's family cuts open a jackfruit, they share a little with both sides of the family (maternal and paternal) to enjoy.
This year, the jackfruit tree hasn't borne fruit yet. Hung suspects it might be due to the salt rain, which will either prevent it from bearing fruit or cause it to bear fruit later in the winter, similar to last year.
This extra-long jackfruit variety, imported from Malaysia, has many advantages and is well-suited to Vietnam's soil and climate.
This jackfruit variety is characterized by its long and heavy fruit when ripe on the tree; each fruit can be over 1 meter long and weigh an average of 25-40 kg.
Inside the jackfruit, the segments are long and thick, crunchy, fragrant, and delicious, with few seeds and fibers. This type of jackfruit also yields high economic returns.
