On July 5, the Brazilian newspaper Novaresistencia published an article titled “Vietnam-Brazil: Strategic connection, shaping the future of global cooperation.”

This article was published in conjunction with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh 's visit to Brazil to attend the 2025 BRICS Expanded Summit.

In the article, the newspaper commented that the Vietnam-Brazil relationship is on the rise, becoming a vivid symbol of South-South cooperation in a multipolar and competitive world .

Despite being half a world apart, the two countries have found deep connections in history, culture and aspirations for development.

Vietnam and Brazil established diplomatic relations on May 8, 1989. Despite being on opposite sides of the globe, the two countries are bound together by striking similarities: a shared history of struggle for independence, rich cultural identities, and the warm hospitality of their people. These values have become a bridge, transforming traditional friendship into strategic progress.

With the milestone of establishing a Strategic Partnership in 2024, Vietnam and Brazil are opening a new era of comprehensive cooperation, in which Vietnam - a rising star in Asia - shines with its outstanding economic potential and increasingly important strategic role.

Novaresistencia's article emphasized that Vietnam-Brazil trade turnover has grown dramatically from 1.5 billion USD in 2011 to more than 7.7 billion USD in 2024, an increase of more than 5 times in more than a decade.

This growth reflects the strategic complementarity between the two economies as Vietnam strengthens its role in the global supply chain.

Vietnam's outstanding products such as seafood, textiles, footwear, rubber, steel and processed industrial goods not only meet the needs of the Brazilian market but also diversify the supply for this South American country.

Vietnam is one of the world's largest seafood exporters, with products such as shrimp and pangasius meeting international standards and being very popular in Brazil.

Conversely, Brazil – with its abundant natural resources and status as an agricultural powerhouse – has provided strategic products such as soybeans, corn, wheat, cotton, minerals, and animal feed ingredients, meeting Vietnam's agricultural and processing industry needs. This complementarity creates a sustainable value chain, benefiting both markets.

However, Vietnam’s economic potential does not stop at traditional products. With a modern economic development strategy, Vietnam is quickly becoming a center of high technology, digital economy, clean energy and biotechnology.

Vietnam is one of the world's largest manufacturers of smartphones and electronic components, with brands such as Samsung, Apple and Intel setting up manufacturing facilities here.

With ambitious goals of achieving US$10 billion in bilateral trade by 2025 and US$15 billion by 2030, Vietnam and Brazil are building the foundation for a comprehensive economic cooperation phase, in which Vietnam – with its rapid growth, strategic location, and extensive FTA network – plays a crucial bridging role between Brazil and Asia.

The article emphasizes that the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Brazil is a symbol of solidarity and aspiration of developing countries.

With political trust as the foundation, economic and trade cooperation as the driving force and cultural diplomacy as the bridge, the two countries are building a typical cooperation model, bringing practical benefits to the people and contributing to global peace and stability./.
