On August 21, King Norodom Sihamoni presided over the opening session of the 7th National Assembly. At the session, King Norodom Sihamoni stated that he had great confidence that the new government of Hun Manet would lead the country to a prosperous future.
Mr. Manet (46 years old) graduated from the prestigious West Point Military Academy in the United States, holds a PhD in economics from the University of Bristol (UK), and is currently the Deputy Commander-in-Chief and Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Army.
As for Hun Sen, the former leader said he would continue as Chairman of the CPP. He added that he would be appointed Chairman of the Supreme Privy Council serving the King of Cambodia, and would also hold the position of President of the Senate, replacing Say Chhum, after the Senate elections in February 2024.
