Launching Hanoi team to participate in national excellent student exam

Participating in the national high school student excellence competition for the 2024-2025 school year, the Hanoi student team has 260 students competing in 13 subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, informatics, literature, history, geography, English, Russian, French, Chinese, and Japanese (20 students per subject), an increase of 26 students compared to last year.

A highlight of the Hanoi student team participating in this year's national excellent student competition is the participation of students from 16 schools, including specialized high schools, non-specialized public high schools, and private schools.

In the system of specialized high schools (schools with specialized classes), Hanoi – Amsterdam Specialized High School leads with 138 students; followed by Nguyen Hue Specialized High School, Chu Van An High School, and Son Tay High School.

Among non-specialized public high schools, the school with the most students selected for the national team is Nguyen Gia Thieu High School (3 students); Kim Lien High School (2 students); the remaining schools: Ngo Quyen High School - Ba Vi, Tran Hung Dao High School - Ha Dong, Phan Huy Chu High School - Dong Da, Viet Duc High School, each had 1 student who became a member of the team.

Among private schools, Newton Secondary and High School had the most students selected for the national teams with 5 students (4 for the math team, 1 for the physics team), followed by the Japan International School (3 students), Doan Thi Diem High School, Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School, Nguyen Binh Khiem Secondary and High School - Cau Giay, and Hoang Long High School (1 student each).

This year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has introduced several innovations in the selection process for the national team. Over 2,200 students across the city participated in the selection exam for the national team in 13 subjects; the Literature subject had the highest number of applicants with 320 students, followed by English with 296 students. Each student is only allowed to take the exam in one subject. In addition, students who won prizes in the 2023-2024 International Olympiad or students who are part of the city's excellent student team participating in the national excellent student competition in the 2023-2024 school year are also eligible to register.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong praised the 260 students who have become official members of the Hanoi student team participating in this year's national excellent student competition; and affirmed that they are the culmination of the intellect, morality, and general education level of Hanoi students this school year under the guidance of the most competent and enthusiastic teachers from specialized high schools and high schools with specialized classes in the city.

According to the plan of the Ministry of Education and Training , the national excellent student selection exam for the 2024-2025 school year will take place on December 25th and 26th, 2024. In the 2023-2024 school year, Hanoi had 234 students participating in the exam. With 184 students winning prizes (accounting for over 78.6%, 43 more than the previous year), Hanoi continues to be the leading locality nationwide in the number of prizes at the national excellent student exam.

Among the 184 awards won by Hanoi students, there were 14 first prizes, 61 second prizes, 54 third prizes, and 55 consolation prizes. Of the 14 first prizes, English had 6; chemistry had 2; and mathematics, biology, computer science, history, geography, and French each had 1 first prize.

 

At the ceremony, the Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Tran The Cuong, particularly praised two 10th-grade students who had excelled in securing a place on the official mathematics team: Ha Manh Hung, from class 10 Math 1 (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted), and Ha Dang An, from class 10G0, Newton Secondary and High School. He also commended Newton School for having the most students selected for the national competition team among private, non-specialized schools.
