This is an art work celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, premiered to the public on the evenings of August 11 and 12, at the Hanoi Opera House.

The opera "From Viet Bac to Hanoi" depicts the image of Nguyen Ai Quoc - Ho Chi Minh after 30 years of searching for a way to save the country, encountering the light of Marxism - Leninism, founding the Communist Party of Vietnam and on January 28, 1941, he returned to the Fatherland, directly leading the Vietnamese revolution.
He and his comrades went to villages in Cao Bang, then Tuyen Quang, Bac Can, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen... to propagate the revolution, build networks, train cadres; build guerrilla teams, mass organizations; establish the Viet Minh Front; combine political struggle with armed struggle; contact and coordinate with the Communist Party of China and the Allied forces; He was arrested and imprisoned in the prison of the Chinese Nationalist Party; He was released from prison and returned to the country to lead the rising revolutionary movement; He and our Party led the revolution of the whole country, making the great August Revolution of 1945.
On the afternoon of September 2, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

At the press conference to launch the cai luong play “Tu Viet Bac ve Ha Noi” organized by the Vietnam National Traditional Theater on August 7, People’s Artist Trieu Trung Kien, representative of the Board of Directors of the Vietnam National Traditional Theater, informed about the creative team of the work. In particular, Associate Professor, Doctor, writer Nguyen The Ky is the scriptwriter; author Hoang Song Viet adapted the cai luong; People’s Artist Trieu Trung Kien directed; People’s Artist Trong Dai is in charge of music; People’s Artist Doan Bang is the art designer...
From 2022 to 2025, the Literature Publishing House and Lien Viet Culture and Communication Joint Stock Company printed and published the 5-volume historical novel “Nuoc non van dam” by Associate Professor, Doctor, writer Nguyen The Ky. This is a monumental artistic epic depicting the image of President Ho Chi Minh in 5 important stages of his life and great revolutionary career.
Along with the novel, with the author's consent, People's Artist Trieu Trung Kien and playwright Hoang Song Viet, along with artists from the Vietnam Opera House (now the Vietnam National Traditional Theatre), planned to adapt and stage five stage plays of the epic art series of the same name.
Part 1 of "Debt to the Country" was released to the public in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and many provinces and cities across the country from 2022 until now, with over 100 performances on the wooden floor and on television and radio.
Part 2, "Drifting on the Four Seas" is in the planning stage.
Part 3, "From Viet Bac to Hanoi" was given priority to be built first and introduced to the public to practically celebrate the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2 (1945-2025).
The scriptwriter, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Ky, said that he, director Trieu Trung Kien and the production team always focused on and worked hard to "normalize" and "simplify" the person and the great qualities of leader Ho Chi Minh. The central character Ho Chi Minh is placed in a non-epic space and time, in the conditions of a normal living environment.

In the relationship between Ho Chi Minh and his comrades such as Truong Chinh, Hoang Van Thu, Pham Van Dong, Vo Nguyen Giap, Le Quang Ba, Phung Chi Kien, Chu Van Tan... the simple but passionately patriotic Cao Bang people such as Mr. May Ly, teacher Thinh, young man Duong Dai Lam..., the character Ho Chi Minh always showed values, noble but simple and close qualities, absolutely not "deified" or worshiped.
People's Artist Trieu Trung Kien said that the cai luong play is basically faithful to the main content of the novel series "Nuoc non van dam", especially episode 3 "Tu Viet Bac ve Ha Noi". According to the director, the biggest challenge is with the setting spanning a period of 5 years (from 1941-1945), in a large space, with a huge number of characters and events, how to convey it attractively and vividly through cai luong art.

The director also revealed that the new point of the play is that it has escaped the "constraints" and "avoidances" of a time when it was believed that in the theater stage, the leader's role "only speaks, only dialogues but cannot/should not sing". "In the play "From Viet Bac to Hanoi", the character Nguyen Ai Quoc - Ho Chi Minh still sings like the other characters. This also makes the main character's image closer to the other characters and to the public", People's Artist Trieu Trung Kien said.

The Cai Luong play brings together many artists of the Vietnam National Traditional Theater, such as People's Artist Manh Hung, Meritorious Artist Quang Khai, Meritorious Artist Tien Dai, actors Nhu Quynh, Ngan Ha, Van Dang, Van Thuan, Van Duong, Duc Hao, Ngoc Tuan...
The artist who portrayed President Ho Chi Minh in the play was Van Thuan. The artist shared: “At first, I was very worried, even having many sleepless nights, because this was such a big challenge for me. But with the encouragement and motivation of the director and colleagues, I gradually became confident and determined to complete the role well. I myself also worked hard to practice, learn from the voice to the appearance, style, especially the very special demeanor of Uncle Ho, to be able to fully play the role.”
