Launching campaign to handle stray dogs and cats to prevent rabies

On November 3, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of An Giang province coordinated with Hon Dat commune to organize a campaign to propagate and handle stray dogs and cats to proactively prevent and control rabies in the commune.

The force is responsible for disseminating legal regulations on livestock management.

The task force is responsible for propagating and disseminating legal regulations on livestock management; requiring households to sign a commitment to properly manage dogs and cats, carry out mandatory rabies vaccination, declare pets to local authorities; proactively report immediately upon detecting cases of animals suspected of being infected with the disease for timely guidance and handling.

The task force has surrounded and handled dogs and cats that are roaming free, not muzzled and without a manager.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the dangers of letting pets roam freely in public places, enhance the responsibility of organizations and individuals in rabies prevention and control, and ensure social safety and environmental sanitation.

After the launch, Hon Dat commune will maintain monthly patrols, collection and treatment of stray dogs and cats to gradually end the situation of stray animals in the area.

Previously, on October 11, 2025, in Hon Dat hamlet, a suspected case of rabies due to a dog bite was recorded.
