Bustling sound of machines at Tuyen Quang highway construction site

Báo Xây dựngBáo Xây dựng04/02/2025

As Tet approaches, everyone longs to return home to their families and gather around a warm meal. But for the workers at the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway construction site, this spring is a Tet away from home.

Staying at the construction site during Tet (Lunar New Year)

Throughout the recent Lunar New Year holiday of 2025, while families were busy preparing for the festivities, the atmosphere on the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway construction site remained bustling. Hundreds of workers and engineers set aside the joy of family reunions to stay on site and ensure the project's progress. For them, this road is not just a project, but also a responsibility, a labor of love, and a hope for a prosperous future for this border region of the country.

During the recent nine-day Tet holiday, machinery and workers on the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway construction site never rested. The sounds of excavators, rollers, and trucks echoed throughout the site. Workers in mud-stained protective gear persevered in construction despite the harsh weather. They all shared a common determination: "to complete the project on schedule and make travel more convenient for the people."

The sound of machinery continued to reverberate throughout the recent Lunar New Year holiday on the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway construction site.

For many workers, this is not the first Tet holiday they have spent away from their families. Mr. Tran Van Thuan, Head of the Testing Department at Deo Ca Group, in charge of package 24 in Ham Yen district (Tuyen Quang province), shared with a heavy heart: "I have two children, the older one is 7 years old, and the younger one is 3. This Tet, I can't go home; I can only call home and see them through the phone screen. My child keeps asking when Dad will come home, and it breaks my heart to hear that. But I have no choice; the project needs me, so I have to try my best."

Nguyen Viet Dat, another worker at Deo Ca Group, said: "Whether it's Tet (Lunar New Year) or not, progress is still the most important thing. Here, everyone understands their responsibility. If everyone tries a little harder, the project will be completed soon, helping people travel more conveniently."

Moreover, even though we're far from home, we workers are very close-knit. We even hold our year-end meals right on the construction site. The meals aren't as elaborate as at home, but there's still sticky rice cake, pickled onions, and words of encouragement to keep trying."

The workers are still diligently working on the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway construction site.

Many other workers share the same sentiment. They miss home, the Tet holiday meals, and the atmosphere of reunion with their parents, wives, and children. But because of their work and responsibilities, they choose to stay and contribute to an important project.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh, a construction worker on package 04 of the section passing through Bac Quang district (Ha Giang), shared: "For three years now, I've celebrated Tet away from home. My wife and children back home are sad, but I'm used to it. Right after the Tet holiday, the workers immediately returned to the construction site, ready for the task of completing the expressway in 2025."

We, the staff and workers, were also very happy to receive a visit, encouragement, and Tet gifts from the Chairman of Ha Giang province, Phan Huy Ngoc, during the Tet holidays."

Construction continued throughout the Tet holiday.

As the peach blossoms begin to bloom in the mountains of Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang, and the people eagerly await the opening of the new road, the workers continue to diligently toil. For them, spring is not only the moment of transition to the new year, but also the hope for a new chapter, a more prosperous future for this land at the northernmost point of the country.

Therefore, the pace of work on the construction site did not slow down at all. With the motto "3 shifts, 4 teams," and "working through holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and weekends," the contractors organized continuous construction to ensure the progress.

Mr. Le Duc Tranh, Director of the Deo Ca Group's Executive Board, is in charge of package number 24 (the section through Ham Yen district, Tuyen Quang province).

Mr. Le Duc Tranh, Director of the Project Management Board for Package No. 24, Deo Ca Group, said: "During the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, we are following the Prime Minister 's directive, with the motto '3 shifts, 4 teams', 'working throughout the holiday, throughout Tet, throughout the days off'."

The contractor, Deo Ca, has been working with the workers, arranging for them to take turns on leave, ensuring that there is always enough manpower on the construction site to continue working throughout the Tet holiday to maintain the project's progress. Now that the holiday is over, machinery and manpower are being mobilized to the maximum extent to ensure the project's progress."

Right after the Lunar New Year holiday, at package 20, a 20-kilometer section of the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway, passing through Tu Quan commune (Yen Son district); Thai Hoa and Thanh Long communes (Ham Yen district), being constructed by Truong Son Construction Corporation and Thanh Hung Investment and Construction Co., Ltd., the atmosphere of urgent work resumed.

Mr. Pham Dac Dien, the site manager of Vietnam 168 Group Joint Stock Company, said: "After Tet, the unit continued to mobilize 200 excavators, bulldozers, and trucks, along with more than 300 workers working in 3 shifts and 4 teams, with a bustling work atmosphere. Wherever the site is acquired, the unit focuses on completing the construction immediately."

The unit is actively leveling the ground, excavating and filling the roadbed, constructing drainage works, casting components, and carrying out concrete-related tasks such as underpasses and culverts... striving to complete the entire drainage system along the route, as well as the roadbed and pedestrian underpasses, ensuring the next construction phases are ready."

To date, the construction progress of the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway project, phase 1, the section passing through Ha Giang province, has exceeded the planned schedule, with the construction value reaching over 1 trillion VND, or 46% of the contract value.

In Tuyen Quang province, local authorities have handed over nearly 64km of land to the construction unit, reaching over 92% (including 0.6km in Yen Son district and over 5.4km in Ham Yen district); the total disbursed amount reached 1,234.6/4,789.7 billion VND, nearly 26%.

The Ha Giang - Tuyen Quang expressway project, the section passing through Tuyen Quang province, is 77km long and has a total investment of 6,800 billion VND. Construction began in October 2023 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

The project's starting point is at the intersection of the Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho expressway and National Highway 2D, and its end point is in Tan Quang commune (Bac Quang district, Ha Giang province). Recently, the Government also assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to guide Tuyen Quang province in adjusting the investment plan to increase the road to 4 lanes.
