When completed, the Thai Binh River Overpass Project and the access road of Ring Road 1 will create new development for the western area of Hai Phong , enhancing connectivity and expanding urban space.
The important "link"
In the overall planning of the development of the traffic system and urban space in the West of Hai Phong, the old Hai Duong City Beltway 1 is identified as a strategic connecting axis, connecting industrial, urban and logistics development areas. On that important traffic axis, the Thai Binh River Overpass and Access Road Construction Project, from Provincial Road 391 to Provincial Road 390 C plays a key role, creating a seamless infrastructure system, shortening the travel distance between the two river banks.
The Thai Binh River Bridge and Approach Road Construction Project has a total length of 2.47 km, with a total investment of more than 1,228 billion VND. Of which, the Thai Binh River Bridge is about 663 m long, designed with reinforced concrete and permanent prestressed reinforced concrete. The bridge has a clearance of 50 x 7 m, meeting the requirements for exploiting a level 3 inland waterway on the Thai Binh River.
The Thai Binh River Overpass is invested with a cross-section of 22.5 m, including mixed lanes, car lanes, median strips, safety strips, railings... in line with the orientation of modern urban traffic development. The special highlight of the project is the architectural design in the shape of a curved stork wing. The architectural plan depicts a stork wing taking off from the water, a peaceful land, a good land for birds to nest... both creates an aesthetic highlight and has symbolic meaning for the aspiration to reach high and far of the western urban area of Hai Phong.

When completed, the bridge will connect Tan Hung ward and Nam Dong ward, directly connecting Provincial Road 391 with Provincial Road 390C. The bridge opens a completely new traffic axis, contributing to reducing the load on Phu Luong bridge, shortening the distance from Nam Dong to the central area of Hai Duong (old) and quickly connecting to industrial parks and industrial clusters in the west of the city.
The Nam Dong area is an agricultural area interspersed with urban areas. When there is a large-scale river bridge, it will become a connecting gateway, creating new space and attracting businesses. The geographical distance is narrowed, and the people of Nam Dong ward as well as the communes of the old Thanh Ha district will also have convenience in trading, living, accessing medical services, education... in the urban center of the western region.
Mr. Dao Van Dai, Cap Thuong 2 residential group (Nam Dong ward) shared: “Previously, every time I went to the other side of the river, I had to go around Provincial Road 390 through Phu Luong Bridge, a distance of more than 10 km. With the Thai Binh River Bridge, the distance is only about 5 km. People are very excited, hoping that the bridge will be completed soon to make traveling more convenient.”

Speed up construction, stick to schedule
According to the West Hai Phong Construction Investment Project Management Board, the Thai Binh River Overpass Project started construction on August 19, 2025. By early December 2025, the camp, warehouse, service road, piers, temporary bridge, transformer station... had been completed to serve the construction. Construction units are leveling the ground for the construction of pillars T5, T6 and deploying bored pile drilling...

Mr. Nguyen Duy Long, Site Commander, said that the joint venture of Khang Nguyen Infrastructure Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company - Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company No. 18 - Dat Phuong Group Joint Stock Company is organizing 5 construction teams at the same time. Of which, Nam Dong ward is implementing 3 teams, including 2 teams to construct the approach bridge and 1 team to construct the T6 pier outside the river, which are important items of the project.
To ensure progress, nearly 200 officers, engineers, workers along with machinery and equipment systems were mobilized to speed up construction at the site. Construction work was organized in 3 shifts, 4 shifts, making the most of time, especially when the weather was favorable.
According to the engineers' assessment, the bridge with the stork-shaped design is a project with a high level of complexity compared to many projects in the same area. Not only because of the curved architectural arch structure, but also because of the construction conditions on the river with deep water levels. For example, at the T6 pillar, there is an area with a depth of up to 26 - 28 m, belonging to the group of projects with the deepest river pillars in the western area of Hai Phong.
The steel arch items of the bridge require high precision in geometry and welding techniques, so large components are made directly at the mechanical workshop, then transported to the construction site for assembly using specialized equipment.
“The quality of the project is strictly controlled by an independent monitoring system, with cross-checking between units. Safety is the top priority, especially in river construction conditions,” said Mr. Nguyen Duy Long.
All staff and workers are trained in occupational safety, fully equipped with life buoys, safety ropes, hard hats and specialized protective equipment. Response plans for bad weather, rising water and strong currents are also carefully calculated.

According to the plan, the project will be completed and put into operation in April 2027. Through a direct inspection at the construction site in November, Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Ngoc Chau requested the investor and construction unit to calculate and shorten the time, striving to complete the project before the Lunar New Year 2027.
The Thai Binh River overpass project with its beautiful design will be a new symbol and key traffic project of the West Hai Phong area.
