Chessboard Peak on Son Tra Peninsula has long been one of the most popular "check-in" spots for tourists visiting Da Nang city.

In recent days, after news broke that billionaire Bill Gates had visited and had tea and conversation at this place during his vacation in Da Nang, this location has attracted even more tourists.

Located at an altitude of over 700m above sea level and just a few kilometers from the city center, Ban Co is a place where visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Da Nang city. On days with less fog, visitors can sit and watch the sunset and see the city lights come on.

More specifically, at certain times of the year, this place is covered in thick fog, creating a fascinating experience for visitors.

As we ascended from an altitude of 400 meters and above, the fog began to thicken. Along the entire path leading to the summit, the primeval forest on both sides was shrouded in a hazy mist.

Driving through fog, visibility is less than 10 meters ahead, so vehicles have to stay close to the center of the road and move very slowly.

Mr. Dang Nam, a resident of Son Tra district, said that what many of his friends find appealing about visiting Da Nang is that tourists can encounter fog in just about 10 minutes.

This is a place where changes in climate and weather are easily visible.

"On sunny days, the path to the summit of Ban Co Mountain is shaded by trees."

Sometimes it's scorching hot down the street, but here it's foggy and misty, with temperatures like in Da Lat.

"On foggy days, it creates a hazy, enchanting atmosphere. This is something not easily found in coastal areas," said Nam.

There is only one way to reach the top of Ban Co Peak.

The road to the summit of Ban Co Mountain is currently very beautiful. All types of vehicles can travel directly to the summit after declaring their presence at the guard stations.

Previously, there were many routes to the summit of Ban Co Mountain. However, due to recent heavy rains in Central Vietnam, some sections of the road have been affected by landslides, so currently only one route is accessible by car to reach the summit.

Visitors can choose to travel along Yet Kieu Street, then turn left onto the road leading up the mountain from the 3rd Naval Region Command. The path to the summit of Ban Co Mountain passes a guard post. Visitors can also stop to admire the clouds at various points such as radar stations, the Son Tra reading station, and the scenic viewpoint.
