North-South high-speed railway standards set to be completed soon

The Ministry of Construction coordinated with the Ministry of Science and Technology to develop and complete the draft of 37 sets of Vietnamese standards on the basis of international standards (ISO).

On the morning of October 21, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha chaired a meeting to hear reports on the issuance of regulations, standards, and other related matters concerning the high-speed railway project on the North-South axis.

According to Deputy Minister of Construction Bui Xuan Dung, from April 2025 to the present, specialized units and experts have collected and compiled 457 railway industry standards for consideration and application to the North-South high-speed railway project (including 202 Vietnamese standards, 137 European standards, and 118 Chinese standards). In addition, Vietnamese technical standards on surveying, testing, and construction materials currently applied to the road sector will also be applied to the high-speed railway project.

Based on that, the Ministry of Construction, in coordination with the Ministry of Science and Technology , has developed and finalized drafts of 37 sets of Vietnamese standards based on international (ISO) equivalence. These are general standards not directly related to the core technologies of high-speed rail.

The standards for the North-South high-speed railway are nearing completion.

The Ministry of Construction is expected to issue 37 sets of Vietnamese standards equivalent to ISO standards before October 30th.

After the Government decided on the technology for the high-speed railway, in addition to the 37 Vietnamese standards issued on the basis of ISO equivalence, the project directly applied the standards of the technology transfer country to the main components, ensuring synchronization with the selected technology and meeting the safety and quality requirements of the project. Priority should be given to applying international standards as much as possible.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that Vietnamese standards equivalent to ISO standards serve as the management basis for the entire project, from surveying, design, and construction to signaling equipment, locomotives, and carriages.

The Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Science and Technology are urgently working to finalize and issue Vietnamese standards equivalent to ISO standards, in accordance with the Prime Minister's directive, as a basis for implementing the next steps of the North-South high-speed railway project.
