Previously, the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the Foreign Trade University and UB Group Joint Stock Company organized the Opening Ceremony of the Intensive Training Course for managers, businesses and industry associations. In order to build human resources with in-depth understanding of economic integration and effectively utilize new generation Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
Expanding training programs nationwide aims to improve the integration capacity of staff and businesses, thereby enhancing the ability to take advantage of opportunities from new-generation FTAs, promoting exports and sustainable economic development.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Trinh Thi Thu Huong - Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics and International Business (Foreign Trade University), the program aims to equip basic knowledge and in-depth expertise on new generation FTAs, contributing to helping Vietnamese enterprises proactively exploit incentives and expand markets in the context of increasingly deep integration.
This is the first course in a series of training programs for experts on EVFTA and new generation FTAs. Participants are officers in charge of international economic integration at state agencies, research institutes, training facilities; consultants; and import-export teams at enterprises and industry associations.
Within the framework of the course, students will be exposed to 5 major topics such as:
Taking advantage of tariff and non-tariff incentives in EVFTA and new generation FTAs; lessons for Vietnamese enterprises;
Trade promotion to effectively exploit new generation FTAs;
Rules of origin in EVFTA and new generation FTAs – Points businesses need to note;
Commitments, implementation and trade defense issues in FTAs; practical experience of Vietnamese enterprises;
Customs procedures and important requirements when accessing new generation FTA markets.
The program is designed to combine theory and practice, encouraging students to exchange, discuss and analyze specific situations in the process of implementing FTAs.
Experts from the Multilateral Trade Policy Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) updated information on the negotiation, signing and implementation of new generation FTAs, including the Vietnam-Israel Agreement and the UK Protocol on Accession to the CPTPP. At the same time, students were instructed on how to identify tariff and non-tariff incentives, how to calculate incentives by industry, as well as barriers when exporting to the EVFTA market.
Strengthening capacity to effectively utilize FTAs
In addition to classroom learning, students will have their practical questions answered, and case studies on rules of origin, tariffs, non-tariffs, and access to market exploitation models in new generation FTA member countries.
At the end of the course, students who complete the final exam will be awarded a Certificate of Expert on EVFTA and New Generation FTA by Foreign Trade University.
