On the evening of December 3, Mr. Nguyen Ha Nam - Director of the Department of Construction of Da Nang City informed about the initial cause of the "death hole" that appeared on Nguyen Cong Tru Street (in An Hai Ward).
According to Mr. Nam, the subsidence location is close to the Capital Square 3 Project, invested by SIH Real Estate Company Limited, which is currently constructing the underground part.

According to initial assessment, the retaining wall system of Capital Square 3 Project adjacent to Nguyen Cong Tru Street is leaking. When heavy rains continue, water flows into the construction area, carrying sand and hollowing out the foundation, causing the stormwater drain to break. When the drain breaks, the water continues to erode the soil below, leading to serious subsidence of the roadbed and technical infrastructure.

The Da Nang Department of Construction requires the investor of the Capital Square 3 project to be responsible for the repair and to absolutely ensure the safety of the residential area. At the same time, it will organize a specific assessment of the cause, develop measures, and organize to fix the construction affecting neighboring works according to regulations.
Immediately after the incident, leaders of the Da Nang People's Committee, the Department of Construction, An Hai ward authorities and related units were present to inspect the scene and request the investor to quickly fix the problem.
The collapsed area has been cordoned off and temporary measures have been implemented to ensure people's safety.

Regarding the incident, many people living near the area where the “death hole” appeared expressed their concern as cracks also appeared on Ngo Quyen Street nearby. Especially when this route has a large amount of trucks moving continuously and it is still raining.
According to records, the Ngo Quyen street section adjacent to the fence of the Capital Square project has a series of long cracks on the road surface. An Hai ward police have temporarily blocked the cracked section of the road to inspect and assess the level of danger.

As reported by Vietnam Law Newspaper earlier, at 2:10 p.m. on December 3, Nguyen Cong Tru Street (from Ngo Quyen to Tran Hung Dao - adjacent to the Capital Square 3 urban area project) suddenly collapsed, creating a hole about 15 meters long and 6 meters wide. The drainage pipe under the road was broken, two cars parked nearby fell into the hole and were damaged. Fortunately, there were no human casualties.
