This is the first visit by a Syrian foreign minister to Saudi Arabia since 2011, when the conflict in Syria broke out.
According to SANA , Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad and the Syrian delegation arrived in the city of Jeddah, starting a working visit at the invitation of his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan.
The working program is expected to include discussions on bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern.
In the context of recent signs of thawing in relations between Damascus and Riyadh, this visit is said to create more grounds to believe that the two sides are moving towards restoring bilateral relations.
Saudi Arabia will host a regional foreign ministers' conference on April 14 to discuss Syria's return to the Arab League.
In the latest development, on the same day, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said that the two countries agreed in a joint statement to resume consular services and flights as well as strengthen security and anti-terrorism efforts.
The two sides discussed necessary steps to reach a comprehensive political solution to the crisis in Syria, towards national reconciliation and contributing to bringing Damascus back to its Arab friends and restoring its rightful position in the Arab world.
In addition, the two countries agreed to address humanitarian issues and create appropriate conditions to support access to all areas in Syria.
Riyadh and Damascus also stressed the importance of repatriating Syrian refugees while taking necessary measures to stabilize the situation in the Middle Eastern country.
