Which bank boss and employee make the most money?

VietNamNetVietNamNet25/11/2023

The bank is increasing its recruitment of staff.

According to their individual financial reports for the third quarter of 2023, as of September 30th, the 27 listed joint-stock commercial banks had a total of 232,158 employees. This number increased by 2,622 compared to December 31st, 2022.

Among the top 10 banks with the largest number of employees in the system (excluding Agribank ), the number of employees is always over 10,000.

Leading the Top 10 is BIDV with 26,108 people, an increase of 377 people compared to the end of 2022. Vietcombank ranks second with 22,771 people, an increase of 906 people.

The banks following in order of number of employees are: VietinBank (22,386 people, a decrease of 493 people); Sacombank (17,384 people, an increase of 6 people); VPBank (13,065 people, an increase of 48 people);ACB (12,984 people, an increase of 380 people); VIB (11,444 people, a sharp increase of 1,504 people); Techcombank (10,938 people, a decrease of 607 people); LPBank (10,333 people, a decrease of 1,870 people) and MB (10,320 people, an increase of 334 people compared to the end of last year).

VIB and Vietcombank saw the largest increase in the number of employees, with 1,504 and 906 people respectively.

Conversely, LPBank, Techcombank, and VietinBank recorded a decrease in the number of employees. LPBank, in particular, experienced significant personnel changes, losing over 1,800 people.

Several smaller banks also experienced a decrease in the number of employees over the past nine months, including Eximbank, NCB, ABBank, SeABank, and TPBank. TPBank saw the sharpest decline, losing over 800 people.

While large banks have tens of thousands of employees, smaller banks have extremely modest staff numbers, even fewer than LPBank's staff reduction.

Specifically, the three banks with fewer than 2,000 employees are Saigonbank (1,420 people), Viet A Bank (1,526 people), and PG Bank (1,723 people).

Employee contribution to bank profits

In terms of employee contribution to pre-tax profit, MB Bank's employees are demonstrating outstanding performance. With pre-tax profit exceeding VND 18,800 billion in the first nine months of the year, each employee contributed an average of over VND 1.8 billion in pre-tax profit to the bank during that period.

More specifically, each employee contributes over 203 million VND in pre-tax profit to the bank each month, while their average income (salary, allowances) is approximately 40 million VND/month, the second highest in the system.

Employees of Chairman Hien's company ranked second in terms of efficiency, with the average contribution of employees to SHB's pre-tax profit in the first nine months of the year being 1.5 billion VND, equivalent to more than 166 million VND per person per month.

Techcombank is a leading bank in terms of employee benefits, with an average employee income of up to 45 million VND per month.

The employees of Chairman Ho Hung Anh also demonstrated how deserving they were of such compensation, with each bringing in 1.3 billion VND in pre-tax profit for the bank in the first nine months of the year.

Next is Vietcombank, with an average contribution of VND 1.26 billion per employee to pre-tax profit in the first nine months of the year, equivalent to VND 140 million per month.

Vietcombank currently ranks third in the entire system in terms of employee salaries, averaging 37.5 million VND per month.

It is clear that banks that offer the highest level of employee benefits will receive commensurate contributions from their employees.

However, there are exceptions. With ACB, chaired by Tran Hung Huy, the bank pays the lowest average salary in the system (just over 13 million VND/month), yet surprisingly, it ranks 5th in terms of average employee contribution to pre-tax profit.

On average, each ACB employee generated over 1.1 billion VND in pre-tax profit for the bank in the first three quarters of the year, equivalent to over 124 million VND per month.

Only the five banks mentioned above (MB, SHB, Techcombank, Vietcombank, ACB) had an average employee contribution of over 1 billion VND to pre-tax profit in the first three quarters of the year.

Several banks are close to this level, such as HDBank (926 million VND), MSB (855 million VND), and VPBank (840 million VND).

Meanwhile, some commercial banks, especially smaller ones, recorded very low average employee contributions to profits. Seven banks even reported pre-tax profits per employee below 200 million VND in the first nine months of the year.
