According to the admission plans announced by universities, many schools are expected to abolish or reduce the use of academic transcripts for admission in 2026. At Hanoi University of Science and Technology, academic transcript scores were previously used to calculate the score for the aptitude test in talent-based admissions, but this will be discontinued from 2026. At that time, for candidates applying based on a combination of aptitude test scores and interviews, academic transcript scores will be replaced by scores from a thinking skills assessment test.

At Hanoi Pedagogical University 2, instead of considering academic transcripts for all majors as in 2025, next year independent transcript evaluation will only be applied to a few majors: Early Childhood Education, Physical Education, Civic Education, Computer Science Education, Information Technology, Materials Science, Sports Management, Vietnamese Studies, Education, and Political Economy.

The School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, also announced that it plans to discontinue using the academic transcript review method for all its programs.

Meanwhile, most schools have shifted to using aptitude tests, critical thinking tests, or the V-SAT exam. In addition, schools still offer direct admission, consider high school graduation exam scores, and evaluate international certificates.

Regarding admission combinations , many universities plan to drop some traditional combinations such as C00, A01, A00… The University of Social Sciences and Humanities plans to discontinue the C00 combination for 15 out of its 30 majors. The Political Officer Training School will also no longer use the C00 and A00 combinations in the 2026 admission season.

The University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, plans to drop the D01 and B00 subject combinations. Meanwhile, the Border Guard Academy will drop the A01, C00, and C01 subject combinations.

The expected admission methods and subject combinations for universities in 2026 are as follows:
