Cold weather often makes people lazy about going for walks and more inclined to snack. Therefore, setting exercise goals is essential.

Fitness experts suggest you can stay active at home by walking indoors or practicing yoga and aerobics, according to the Hindustan Times.

The minimum you should walk on cold winter days is 3,000 steps or 30 minutes of brisk walking.

Minimum steps for winter health care

Dr. Mohit Saran, a consultant physician at Manipal Gurugram Hospital (India), said: "Ideally, one should walk 10,000 steps a day, but on cold days, people should stay indoors and walk briskly or practice yoga, because in winter, when temperatures drop, arteries constrict, so the heart has to work harder to maintain blood circulation."

People tend to be less inclined to exercise in the winter, so experts recommend reducing the amount of exercise and focusing on activities like brisk walking, indoor exercises, or yoga.

Adequate physical activity promotes a healthy gut, supporting overall health during the cold season.

What is the minimum amount of walking you should do?

Dr. Samrat D Shah, an internal medicine specialist at Bhatia-Mumbai Hospital (India), says that on days when it's difficult to go to the gym, you should at least walk or engage in physical activity for 20-30 minutes to feel active, energized, and stay healthy.

Even if you don't feel thirsty, you must drink enough water, especially when exercising.

Dr. Shah revealed: If your pace is 100 steps per minute, you can achieve 3,000 steps in 30 minutes. Therefore, the minimum you should walk during the cold winter months is 3,000 steps or 30 minutes of brisk walking, according to the Hindustan Times.

Dr. Saran further noted: You also need to follow precautions during the cold season. If it's very cold, wear multiple layers of clothing to help retain body heat. Keep your feet warm, wear gloves, and wear a hat to prevent heat loss.

In addition, even if you don't feel thirsty, you must drink enough water, especially when exercising. Drinking warm water, such as herbal tea, can help hydrate and warm the body.
