Son Heung-min's stellar form at LAFC after just seven games is a testament to his talent and professionalism. |
In a tournament with the presence of Lionel Messi, Son Heung-min's current explosion is a surprise. Even the former Tottenham star quickly asserted his class, not being inferior to Messi.
On September 22, South Korean striker Son Heung-min contributed to Los Angeles FC's (LAFC) 4-1 win over Real Salt Lake in MLS Round 31. In just his first seven MLS games, Son has scored six goals and provided two assists, averaging more than one assist per game.
In only two games (one as a substitute on his debut) did he not directly contribute to a goal. Former Tottenham player Jamie Redknapp could not understand why the "Roosters" let Son Heung-min leave so easily this summer.
"Son Heung-min left Tottenham when he still had a lot to offer. £20m was a bargain," Redknapp commented on BBC . "Sonny left after helping Spurs win the Europa League. Although LAFC was not Son Heung-min's first choice, he was persuaded to join, and now, no party in this deal feels regretful - except Tottenham."
"It's clear that MLS still has a quality gap compared to the Premier League. However, for LAFC, Son is the most expensive contract in MLS history, and he is proving his value far exceeds the investment," Redknapp assessed.
