Priceless heritage value
Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark (GGP) is a prominent destination, attracting tourists with its majestic natural landscape and precious heritage values.
Possessing an ancient volcanic system and the longest lava caves in Southeast Asia, the park creates a unique geological picture, ideal for those who love to explore and do scientific research. Waterfalls such as Lieng Nung, Luu Ly, D'ray Sap... and lakes contribute to the majestic beauty of this land, bringing unforgettable experiences to visitors.
The park is not only a geological treasure but also a place to preserve the rich cultural heritage of ethnic minority communities such as the M'nong, Ede, Ma... Traditional festivals, such as the water wharf worship ceremony, the new rice celebration, or the gong festival, imbued with local cultural identity, become highlights for cultural tourism. Craft villages such as brocade weaving and wine making are also attractive destinations, helping visitors learn more about indigenous life and culture.
With an area of over 4,760 km², the park spans 5 districts and Gia Nghia City, where the diversity of terrain and ecology converges. The primeval forests and rich flora and fauna, including many species listed in the Vietnam Red Book, bring great conservation value. A special highlight is Ta Dung National Park, known as "Ha Long Bay on land" with hundreds of small green islands on the water, an ideal place for ecotourism activities such as trekking, camping and boating.
Efforts in preserving and promoting heritage values have helped Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark become a symbol of sustainable tourism, harmoniously combining nature, culture and local economic development.
Preserve and promote values
The Dak Nong Provincial Party Congresses have always been steadfast in their long-term vision of developing sustainable tourism based on nature conservation, synchronous infrastructure development and improving the cultural life of the people.
The 12th Provincial Party Congress determined the goal by 2030 to develop tourism into a center of resort and ecological tourism based on the advantages of climate and landscape. The 12th Congress focused on developing tourism on the basis of promoting natural advantages, cultural values - indigenous ecological characteristics, and the UNESCO Dak Nong Geopark. This is one of the three pillars of the local economy.
One of the important factors promoting Dak Nong tourism is UNESCO's recognition of Dak Nong Geopark as a Global Geopark in July 2020. This is a great opportunity for Dak Nong to develop a tourism brand associated with the province's unique geological and cultural resources.
Dak Nong has issued a separate resolution on the construction and development of the UNESCO Dak Nong Global Geopark for the period 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030. With the participation of the entire political system, departments and branches, Dak Nong has achieved some results in preserving and promoting the value of the UNESCO Global Geopark.
Officials, party members and local communities are increasingly raising awareness in the work of conservation, sustainable exploitation and overall promotion of heritage values. Tourism promotion and advertising activities are being stepped up in localities in the Geopark area.
Dak Nong province has signed multilateral and bilateral cooperation memorandums, especially in the fields of geological heritage conservation, tourism development, and science education with other geoparks in the region and internationally. Notably, in 2022, Dak Nong represented Vietnam to successfully host the 20th International Conference on Volcanic Caves (ISV20), thereby promoting scientific cooperation and promoting the image of Dak Nong to international friends.
Dak Nong has focused on preserving and promoting heritage values in the Geopark, making great progress in preserving cultural, historical and scenic relics. Currently, the province has 2 more national-level relics and scenic relics and 3 provincial-level relics recognized, bringing the total to 18 relics and 55 historical relic sites included in the inventory.
Intangible cultural values are also being restored and preserved, including traditional crafts, rituals, and customs of indigenous people. Some traditional crafts such as rice wine, brocade weaving in Gia Nghia city, and typical rituals such as the forest god worshiping ceremony of the Ma people, the folk performing art of Nau M'Pring, and traditional hand weaving of the M'nong people have been recognized as national intangible cultural heritages. The whole province has built 9 community tourism models, 31 traditional art troupes to serve tourists, and organized 11 typical festivals, with unique indigenous cultural features.
To ensure sustainable socio-economic development associated with the geopark, Dak Nong has implemented a project to plan the Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark, delineate the protection of important heritage sites and develop tourism associated with the nature and culture of the heritage area in the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. This project is currently being integrated into the province's master plan and will continue to be adjusted to meet the requirements of sustainable development.
Investment in typical destinations of the Geopark is prioritized with many resources devoted to the renovation, repair and upgrading of tourism infrastructure. The province has adjusted the number of tourist spots in the park from 44 to 41, in order to optimize the ability to serve tourists in the new development context of the Geopark.
To support tourism development, the Provincial People's Committee issued a list of 22 projects calling for investment in potential areas, including 3 typical projects that have completed legal procedures: Lieng Nung waterfall eco-tourism area in Gia Nghia, Luu Ly waterfall eco-tourism area in Dak Song, and Ho Truc eco-tourism area in Cu Jut.
With the above efforts, Dak Nong has been building a sustainable foundation for the development of Dak Nong UNESCO Geopark, actively contributing to socio-economic development and improving the cultural life of local communities.
