When the Ngo Dong River is covered with the dreamy purple color of lotus flowers, Tam Coc - Bich Dong tourist area becomes strangely charming. The water surface is covered with morning mist, the flower petals gently touch the boat's bow, reflecting on the majestic limestone cliffs, creating a poetic scene that is rarely found anywhere else.
Along the Ngo Dong River in the morning, visitors can easily see thousands of blooming lotus clusters, creating a unique “river of flowers”. This is not a natural scene, but the result of months of planting, care and continuous monitoring by the Tourist Area Management Board and local people.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, media representative of Tam Coc-Bich Dong Tourist Area said: “We are trying to build the image of “Tam Coc in four seasons”, each season has its own appeal. Particularly for the lotus field, after 2 years of exploitation, it has brought a very positive effect, loved by tourists everywhere. Especially recently, we organized the program “Pink lotus” attracting thousands of photographers, tourists, and artists to attend, bringing a new experience space and the opportunity to promote the image of Tam Coc in autumn”.

Over the years, Tam Coc-Bich Dong tourist area has been gradually perfecting its typical tourism products for all four seasons, creating year-round appeal. In spring, the tourist area has the green, peaceful beauty of young rice fields with fields on both sides of the Ngo Dong River. This is the time when the new rice crop begins, suitable for boat tours to see young rice, walking and participating in festival and religious activities at communal houses, temples and pagodas in the Trang An-Tam Coc area, creating a typical spring festival atmosphere.
Summer is the golden color of the art fields. The artistic rice paintings of Tam Coc have become a "brand" for many years. Each season, the Management Board chooses a different theme such as "Festival flag", "Fish watching the moon", "Shepherd playing the flute"... Activities such as reenacting agricultural rituals to worship Than Nong, traditional craft village space, culinary festivals, street performances... are also organized in "Ninh Binh Tourism Week", making Tam Coc a vibrant and creative destination.
In winter, there are slow tourism activities with tours to experience local culture, cycling to explore the countryside and some music festivals that have been organized by this unit annually such as Beer Festival, Dong Giao May Hoi as well as art and culinary programs to celebrate Christmas, New Year, etc. to serve the international tourist market when coming to Ninh Binh at this time.
Mr. Le Quoc Dam, a tour guide in Hanoi, shared: “International visitors love to visit pristine, fresh places with little human impact. And Tam Coc is one of those destinations. They are impressed because this place retains its natural beauty. In addition, the simplicity and honesty of the local people are also “plus points” that make international visitors excited.”

According to Ms. Ngoc, to build a four-season product, in addition to constantly investing and renewing tourism products, the infrastructure must also adapt to the number of visitors all year round. The biggest goal is to ensure absolute safety and a complete experience for tourists.
In 2025, this tourist area will focus on upgrading the wharf area, waiting room system, parking lot, multilingual signboards; sightseeing spots such as Dinh May, Khe Gioi, walking paths connecting to nearby attractions.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, a tourist from Hanoi, commented: “Every time I come back, I see Tam Coc changing in a more civilized direction. This is what makes tourists want to come back.”
In 2024, Tam Coc-Bich Dong tourist area will welcome nearly 600,000 visitors, an increase of more than 31% compared to 2023, of which 70% are international visitors. In 2025, this tourist area is expected to welcome about 1 million visitors, with many potential tourist markets such as Europe, Korea, and Australia.
Ms. Ngoc added: "We will invest more systematically so that visitors, no matter when they come, will have a memorable experience of Tam Coc - green, friendly, and sustainable."
If in the past, Tam Coc was known mainly for its golden rice fields, now the tourist area has gradually renewed itself with "faces" that are both strange and familiar. These changes do not destroy the inherent identity but on the contrary, contribute to honoring the pristine value of the Trang An-Tam Coc heritage site. The diversification of products, the systematic investment in infrastructure, and responsible tourism are opening up a longer-term, more sustainable development journey for Tam Coc.
