New vision, new content connecting Vietnam and Laos

General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam, his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation have just successfully concluded a State visit to Laos, attending the 50th National Day celebration of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and co-chairing the High-level Meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party.

The two sides' agreement to deepen the Vietnam-Laos relationship to a new height within the framework of the working trip marked a milestone in the glorious history of the two countries' relationship, affirming their common vision and orientation for long-term companionship for the goal of sustainable development and prosperity.

General Secretary To Lam 's visit to Laos this time brings the deep, steadfast and lasting solidarity of the Vietnamese people to the brotherly Lao people, as well as affirms Vietnam's consistent foreign policy of always giving the highest priority to the special solidarity relationship with Laos.

At the talks and meetings, General Secretary To Lam and senior Lao leaders expressed their joy at the great strides in the bilateral relationship; affirming that this relationship is an important factor ensuring the success of the cause of national construction and protection in each country.

The two sides agreed to strongly promote and create breakthroughs in cooperation in economics, trade, culture, science and technology, education and training, etc.

In particular, the two sides issued the Vietnam-Laos Joint Statement. The Joint Statement stated: The two sides agreed to deepen the Vietnam-Laos relationship to a new height, which is the relationship of "Great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, strategic cohesion", demonstrating a common vision, intertwined strategic interests and long-term companionship for sustainable development, self-reliance and common prosperity of the two peoples.

According to the Joint Statement, the two sides affirmed that strategic engagement will be the foundation to strongly promote the cooperative relationship in depth and substance, especially engagement in vision and goals, development policies and strategies, infrastructure and development space, education, training and human resource development, thereby strengthening security and sustainable development of the two countries.

The above-mentioned progress in Vietnam-Laos relations is a response to the new requirements of the times. This was emphasized by General Secretary To Lam in his policy speech at the Lao National Academy of Politics and Public Administration.

According to the General Secretary, in the context of a rapidly changing world, the two countries must elevate the level from “cooperation” to “connection”, because connection is strategic, has an overall design, has roles and complements each other. During the visit, on behalf of the Lao Party and State, General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith presented General Secretary To Lam with the National Gold Medal - the highest medal of the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith co-chaired the High-level Meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party. This is the highest cooperation mechanism and is of special significance, playing an orienting role, bringing the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic connection between Vietnam and Laos to increasingly develop and deepen, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries.

At the meeting, the two leaders highly appreciated the important, comprehensive, and historic achievements that the two Parties, States, and peoples have attained, especially in implementing the Congress Resolution as well as in preparing for the upcoming Party Congress in each country.

Agreeing to continue to deepen the relationship between the two Parties and two countries, considering it a core pillar guiding the overall strategy for the Vietnam-Laos comprehensive cooperation relationship, General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary and President of Laos affirmed the consistent policy of the two Parties and two States in always standing side by side, supporting and helping each other in the cause of innovation, construction, development and defense of the Fatherland.

The two sides affirmed to continue to maximize the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms, innovate and improve the quality of coordination in all fields; and at the same time consider building new, suitable cooperation mechanisms.

During the working trip, General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, attended the solemn ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Day of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (December 2, 1975 - December 2, 2025) in the capital Vientiane; sharing joy with brotherly Laos on this important holiday.

General Secretary To Lam's State visit to Laos, attending the 50th National Day Celebration of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and co-chairing the High-Level Meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, contributed to enhancing strategic trust and opening up new directions for cooperation.
