Speeding up construction to ensure the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway is technically open to traffic on July 10

Construction is being accelerated to ensure the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway is ready for technical opening on July 10th.

Reporters observed on the Van Ninh – Cam Lo expressway on the morning of June 26th that construction was proceeding very urgently, especially at the interchanges. At the National Highway 9 interchange section passing through Cam Hieu commune, Cam Lo district, machinery and workers were mobilized to work overtime, focusing on constructing the overpass and service roads on both sides to organize traffic flow.

The contractor has completed the basic components of the bridge and is now focusing on finishing the bridge deck, approach roads, etc. The service roads are also being constructed simultaneously to ensure completion at the same time as the main route.

At the intersection at km 740+363 (Cam Thuy commune, Cam Lo district), the Tam Hiep overpass is nearing completion. Currently, workers are reinforcing the bridge deck with steel bars in preparation for pouring concrete on the remaining surface area. Meanwhile, the approach roads on both sides of the overpass have been laid with crushed stone aggregate, and rollers are compacting them in preparation for asphalt paving.

The main components of the service roads for local residents have been completed. Construction activity at the intersection of National Highway 9D (Ben Quan town, Vinh Linh district) is also progressing rapidly. The construction unit is accelerating the completion of the access road to the overpass and other access roads and service roads for local residents.

Meanwhile, the entire main section of the Van Ninh – Cam Lo expressway has been paved with asphalt. The rigid median barriers, guardrails, and road signs have been installed. Only a few sections of the protective fences, road markings, drainage system, and leveling of the road surface and embankment slopes remain to be completed by workers in order to meet the technical opening deadline.

According to Mr. Tran Phong Nha, the representative of the consulting and supervision firm, the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway section passing through Quang Tri province has completed 90% of the main route work. Currently, contractors are accelerating construction at 3 interchanges (National Highway 9 interchange, km740+363 interchange, and National Highway 9D interchange).

“Currently, there are about 300 workers and 200 machines working overtime on the construction site, mainly on the three overpasses and traffic safety system. Initially, the technical opening was scheduled for June 30th. However, due to delays, the contractors are accelerating the construction to meet the technical opening deadline of July 10th,” Mr. Nha said.

The Van Ninh - Cam Lo Expressway is a component project of the North-South Expressway Eastern section, phase 2021-2025. The project has a total investment of over 9,900 billion VND, divided into two packages, and is managed by the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board. Construction commenced on January 1, 2023. The project has a total length of 65.5 km, connecting the provinces of Quang Binh (nearly 33 km) and Quang Tri (over 32 km). The expressway starts in Van Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district, Quang Binh province, and ends at the intersection with National Highway 9, connecting with the Cam Lo - La Son Expressway (connecting Quang Tri with Hue City).

This project meets the standards of a 4-lane highway, with a roadbed width of 17 m and a design speed of 80-90 km/h. Emergency stops are spaced 4-5 km apart. There are 4 interchanges along the route, including 3 in Quang Tri province (National Highway 9 interchange, km740+363 interchange (at DT75), and National Highway 9D interchange) and 1 in Quang Binh province (National Highway 9C interchange).

The route includes 29 bridges, of which 16 are on the main route, 10 are overpasses, and 4 are at interchanges.

With the urgent efforts of the construction units, it is expected that the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway will be ready for technical opening to traffic on July 10th.
